Clear goo in the bilge?

Hello all,

I checked on my '06 190Bay at the storage yard today. It has been laid up since July 5, due to my work schedule and large amount of wind and liquid sunshine we have been receiving lately.

I looked in the bilge and saw what looked like clear oil in my bilge (the plugs are removed so it drains constantly). I put my finger in in and it was almost like a clear odorless gel. It was slick to the touch but odorless.

I do know that I have 2 cracks in the floor deck plates on both sides of the console. I believe they also drain into the bilge, could it be from there?

Has anyone else ever seen this?

I will take some pictures and post them.

Thanks,

Frank

Sounds like Teleflex Hydraulic steering gear fluid or some kind of oil to me Did you leave some Shad Oil (chum) oil on the boat by chance and it leak into the bilge? That though should smell like extreme low tide by now though! Ha-Ha...

Hi Puttershark,

Thanks for the reply.

I have not left anything on the boat and this goos is clear and odorless.

I have the "no feedback" steering system. I believe it uses a cable and it is not hydraulic.

I thought it might be somethig used in manufacturing, like slime to pull cables and wires. I will have to do some more investigating to see what I can come up with.

Frank

Could the goo be jellyfish organisms?

I have been seeing a bunch of tiny/gelatinous creatures in the bay lately. Could that goo be those jelly fish type things? -Andrew

I checked with the factory on this for you and here was their response:
Quote:
The cracks in the deck plates would not cause this and we will take care
of your plates under warranty. There is no clear gel that we use in the
production process so I am not sure what this would be.
