Question Johnson 115 HP prop question

I have a 19 Bay with a Johnson 115 HP four stroke outboard. This motor is a Suzuki made for Bombardier. It came with an aluminum 13 1/4 X17 and would over rev the engine. Max RPM on a 115 is 6000.
I purchased a Suzuki 14x18 SS prop and the motor is still hitting the rev limiter. I plan on trying a 20 or 21 inch pitch.
Any FORUM advice prior to purchase would be appreciated.

We are running a Yamaha 115 carbed with a 13 1/4 x 17 stainless steel, I always run with my family and a full tank, and turn about 5800 wide open. I also have been told that the different manufacturers have greatly varying weights, which effect performance. Just my 2 cents.

Generally, I would be surprised to see that much pitch on this boat. What is your speed at 6K? Are your throttle cables properly adjusted?

How is your trim? When you say 'over rev' do you mean at a constant speed or are you ventilating (often confused with cavitation)? If the motor rpm is 'jumping' up to the 6K limit then this is likely not a prop issue. Your prop may be out of the water.

From a standing stop, you normally would have the motor trimmed all the way down. Then as the boat gets onto plane and speeds up - trim the motor out to increase speed and to keep the bow from plowing. By trimming the motor out too much then you will ventilate - or if trimmed too far out when first getting on the throttle.

We put a 21p on the 190s with a Johnson or Suzuki 115 4 stroke, They have a gear reduction under the power head that requires a larger prop. They also seem to make more than 115 hp.

perdido, I have the same set up and had a hard time proping the boat. I think I was the first to do it with an 03 190Bay and an 03 Johnson 115 4S back in December of 03. I had gone from 15, 17, 19 to a 21" aluminum and still wasn't getting to the recommended rpms at WOT. Before going even higher,I had prop shop in OKC ask me to try a SS 19". I'm still not getting as high as I should (I think I'm 200-300 rpm or so off at WOT) but loved the performace so I stuck with it. I'm probably loosing 4-6 mph or so but I don't run WOT very often so I don't mind it too much, I can still get it to around 40 mph the way it is.

Does anyone run a Suzuki DF140 or on a 190 Bay. If so, what are your results with all props.

I'm running a 3 blade 21"(ss) on my 186 Logic with a 115 Merc. it will still run the required rpms and tops out around 45-47mph if the bay is dead calm. The 21" really improved the way the boat performed at trolling speed pushing it along at 5 mph at idle.

You may want to PM MolarBoater. I think he has a 140 Zuki.
