Electronics Shelf

Made this shelf out of a kitchen cutting board from WalMart and some stainless steel screws. Holds fishfinder, GPS and a cigarette lighter. Also pictured is a glove box. Helps keep electronics viewable and out of the way.

nice setup erockin, it's easy to run out of room on the 190 console without an e-box etc.

Nice setup

I do have to ask though how much compass deflection (if any) are you getting when you fire those puppies up? My training both in the Coast Guard and Private Pilot was that when all that fancy electronic gear failed , that the compass will still get you home Now it looks like to me having all the gear that close, that your compass would start to either spin or be several degrees off?

Just wondering…

Putershark,
I have not noticed any problems with the GPS or the Fishfinder affecting the compass. The VHF radio on the other hand throws the compass off a couple degrees. I plan to place the VHF radio in dash when I find the time. I have seen a picture off the same type of radio mounted in dash under the front grab handel. The left side of the grab handel had been reconnected about four inches up on the dash. I would give credit but I don't remember who's boat I saw that setup on. I agree that having the compass right is the best fail safe.

Erockin,

I would like to mount my electronics the same way. Can you give me any tips or advice having already completed this project?

Mark

Mark,
I could provide you with up close photos that would provide alot more detail. I am not able or not aware of how to post larger photo's on the web site. I could email them to you directly if you like. I screwed the shelf to the bottom of both sides of electronics console and put one screw in the top close to the compass. The triangle supports are a must to make the shelf stable. Recessing the screws a little is also a good idea.

What size are the photos in their original form? You can upload up to 800x600 pixel images in the "Photos" section of the site. Or you can attach photos directly within a post. The limit on the attachment in a post is 800x600 pixels and 250kb in size. That is a pretty large image file. The problem maybe the original size of your image. Email me one of them if you like and I'll try to post it.
