Tie Cleats

Just bought a '05 19' bay boat.. The tie cleats are a pop up design. But when you try to tie a line to them , they want to fold down. Could they be on backwards?? if you were pulling from inside the boat the cleats will stay up, if your pulling outside or tying to the dock they just lay down, you cant even put a wrap on them..Any one ?? The dealer says,, they have a metal insert and cant be turned around..

I agree with your assessment. They are definitely on backwards and need to be changed. I would contact the factory if my dealer had an answer like yours. It is the little things like that that make people mad and cause bad publicity for the brand. The factory (and your dealer) should be very interested in making sure no boat is delivered like that again. And they should be jumping through hoops to get yours fixed.

Anyone who thinks they are installed correct, tell me why.

I have the same cleats and think they are installed correctly. Mine work the same. I use a line with a loop on it and go around and when pulling they go until the line stops it.

It just makes sense to me that if the cleat opens (stands up) to the outside of the boat, against the pressure of the line, then it is correct. If it wants to fold down, when the line goes slack, then it is going to unnecessarily wear on the folding mechanism and possibly the line itself.

If it were my boat - it would open to the outside for those reasons.

Sure am glad the 210s don't have those.

Thanks for the input.. They really do suck!! Sent an E Mail to the factory but havent heard back yet. We noticed another thing also, We put on a 30 gal. bait tank w/ a seat, which uses the same intake as the factory bait tank.To stop the eel grass from sucking in, we need to put a screen on it. But the intake thru hole sits right on the edge of the bunk board of the trailer making it impossible to put a screen on it. Any suggestions??
