I am running about 5500 if trimmed right. I have a couple of minor dings in the prop. What do you feel I should be running WOT?

I am runnning a 17 pitch prop. I just wish I had a four stroke with the price of gas if it would save as they promise.

33 knots = 38 mph. So it looks like you're in the range. A new prop may help if the old one is causing vibrations (the motor is shaking).

Check your owners manual (many can be downloaded from the Yamaha web site) to be sure for some engines can be ran (or should) higher than 5500 RPM. Here again, the manual for your engine year and model is the best resource for such data

Guys thanks for the tips, I do find that I can only trim up to 5500 rpm in smooth water, or I porpoise to much.

A Doel Fin can cause that.

If you want performance you have to go with a Yamaha 150 VMax. Mine has a 14.25 X 19 prop and it can bury the needle on the 55 mph speedo at 5500 rpm. Basically for every 100 rpm's is 1 mph. 3000 rpm is 30 mph.

I have a '01 186 with Merc 150 XR6. GPS is right about 47 mph. I dont know exact fuel burn, but I usually cruise at 3500 rpm ~32 mph and best I can tell I get about 2 mpg. If I had it to do over I probably would go with a 115 4 stroke or 115 etec.

Marathon Runner, at 47 MPH via GPS, my speedo is also nearly pegged, so your probably not actually runnung that fast. Boat speedometers are notoriously inaccurate.
