What size engine do you have on 190 bay?

Can you please let me know what type/size engine you have on your 190 bay and some performance numbers. I have a 2 stroke Mercury 90 HP and I'm considering a larger engine, and I would like some performance numbers before I decide what type/size engine I would upgrade to. Thank you in advance.

I have a Honda 130.

700 rpm idle = 2 mph
4K = 30 mph
5K = 37 mph
5,500 WOT = 40 MPH
Prop = 3X13.25X17"
The best power band seems to be between 4 and 5K rpm. Anyting more is inefficient use of gas. If you are interested in Honda, I would recommend going up to the 150 as it weighs about the same as the 130.

Most of these boats are rigged with 115 Mercs, Hondas, etc. But some came with Zuki 140's. That would be the best you can do unless you can score a Honda 150 - pretty spendy on the Honda.

I don't think I would be happy with a 90HP motor pushing this rig. But maybe someone else here has one and can convince me otherwise.

We have a Suzuki DF140 on ours. All of this is on GPS

Idle- 2.6 m.p.h
3000- 19 m.p.h
4000- 31 m.p.h
5000- 36 m.p.h
5800- 40 m.p.h

At 5800 RPM that is with the engine trimmed up alot. We Have to get the throttle cables adjusted and a different prop and we should get 4-7 m.p.h morre at WOT.

The prop is a 3x14x19

Question 90 4-stroke merc.

well by looking at everyone's numbers my 90 four stroke merc does
pretty good. I don't know that I would spend the extra money unless
you are a tournement fisherman and need to outrun someone to your
favorite spot. Mine has a 13 1/4 x 15 aluminum mercurey prop and I'm
turning 6000 rpm@wot and my gps speed is around 37.8 w/2 guys', gear,
40 gal. bait tank full. and 1/2 tank of fuel. I think it would do a littl better
than that with maybe a 16 pitch prop.

Merc 115 four stroke

2.6 Idle
4000= 33.9
5000= 41.8
5500 or WOT= 43.5 GPS
prop is Quick Silver 13 1/8 X 16p
these readings are with two and gear plus a cooler strapped down upfront alond with a full tank and double checked with a handheld GPS along with the water speed gauge. The numbers seem to be on the high side for a 115 but that is what the readings say. I have to be careful when playing with the trim to be able to achieve max mph and I have found 4000 and 31 to 33.9 the best for fuel consumption. This past weekend on Lake Powell I did a small 90 mile round trip on a little over a 1/2 tank.

The only other thing I would add here is that salt water is more buoyant than fresh. Maybe that would help the salt numbers? Haven't really thought of that one before - for you lake guys.

I would look at weight vs power ratio. The 150 Suk 4 stroke is coming out soon if not already...that's what I would go for. Still great on gas. Are you going to use it for watersports at all? Need max hp for that. One theory is that you may run lower hp motors harder/higher rpms more often thus placing extra stress on the engine. Run a higher hp motor easier and may last longer and always have the ponies when you need them. It's hard to go wronge with any of the new motors out there, all major brands are close in performance and reliability....that leaves money vs hp vs warranty vs weight.
good luck, Emery

Johnson 115 Hp 4 stroke

Johnson 115 4S on a 2004 19Bay with SS 14x20 3 blade runs 39MPH at WOT per GPS. It turns around 5800rpm.
All new Johnson 4 strokes ( 90-115-140 Hp ) are made by Suzuki.
Max RPM on these three motors per the shop manual are 90 4500-5500;115 5000-6000; and 140 5600-6200.
Figure on 200 to 300 RPM increase or decrease with each one inch of pitch change.
Also Johnson props come in odd number pitches and Suzuki has even numbers. Both will fit either brand name.
Good Luck

I have a 2001 186, it came rigged with a yammi 90 2 stroke, lets just say do not go that route. I 130 is ideal if you can get it, we repowered with a 2 stroke 115 yami, and I am always running with a full load and T-Top. We cruise at 4,000 rpm @ 25-26 knots, WOT is 33 knots. I am runnning a 17 pitch prop. I just wish I had a four stroke with the price of gas if it would save as they promise.

Mark,

What is your RPM at WOT? Sounds like you are not getting enough bite with your present prop. Try using one of these props to help you get your boat all dialed in

Tight Lines!
