191SC - Automatic Bilge Pump

My automatic bilge pump is now really automatic - it won't stop running. It pumps just fine, but the timer and/or moisture sensor must have went bad.

I looked at the wiring harness and there are three conductors in the cable from the pump to the snap connector. I'm assuming that one is negative, one is the switched positive from the rocker switch on the console, and one is the unswitched positive.

Since I keep my boat in the driveway, I really don't need the automatic operation and I'd like to simply cut the unswitched positive.

Does anyone know which one of the three conductors is the unswitched positive? I could also test the snap connector (wiring coming from the console), but it's hard to get your hands and arms into the inspection holes. Or does anyone have the manual in a PDF format they would e-mail to me? I looked on ITT Industries website and couldn't find a manual.

Thanks for the help!

Charlie, Cut the Brown w/ White stripe, leave the solid Brown and Black connected.

Thanks Dick. I'm out of town, but I'll try it on Saturday.

Dick,

I decided to take my own advice and digital multimeter and test the three conductor plug coming from the dash. As it turns out, the solid brown was the hot lead, not the brown with white stripe. I'm sure the factory simply 'screwed up' when they wired it.

Bottom line, ALWAYS verify that your boat is wired the way it's supposed to be before you make any electrical wiring changes.

Once again, thanks for the help.

Bilge pump switch

USMA 84

I'm new to this website and looking for answers to my auto bilge pump. I own a 170 Center Console which I enjoy very much. I keep it out of the water most of the time and must disconnect the wire to the battery to cut off the bilge. Triumph Boats and the dealership have been of no help. ITT does show some schematics, but they are blurred. I have the boat at Kerr Lake, Henderson, NC. Whatever advice you might have is appreciated.
Thanks: Stan

Stan,
I'm not sure what your question is.
