Just bought a 191SC
I found a 191SC listed in an auction. Did the research, went there, and then bought it
I must thank the auctioneer company for backing it in the corner and not taking the tree debris out of it. From a distance it didn't look like a lot...but I knew better. Its an 2004 mint condition (just needs cleaning) with a Mercury 150 V6 Saltwater outboard. I've been getting a crash course on these boats from the website and noticed that Mercury Engines are not widely used (from what I can tell). Is there a reason for this? Fuel efficiency, power, weight? Just curious. Also, there doesn't seem to be many 191SCs out there. I got the specs from Triumph and is clearly designed for fishing but no very little else about that specific model. How are these compared to the other 191 models? Any help appreciated. Thanks! |

Thank you for the response.
I'm already trying to absorb everything I'm reading. Even though the boat/engine look like new I'm having my mechanic go over the engine and etc in a week or two (it will be no fun to wait). My friend says to flip the boat and take the cash...I told him I probably would. I really shouldn't fib to my friend . Now my bass boat gets to go on the market.

cjgeek,
Congratulations on your find. I think one of the reasons why you don't see many Triumph boats powered by Mercury is because the dealers seem to push the Yamaha. The Mercury does weigh more than a same sized Yamaha but that does not make it a bad engine. If you looked at the survey you've noticed boats powered by just about every engine brand out there. They are all good engines. I've had a Mercury, Johnson, and now a Yamaha and with the proper maintenance I've not had any major problems with any of them. If your mechanic tells you the engine is in good condition, follow the manufacturers maintenance schedule and enjoy years of trouble free operation. Welcome to the site.

Boat got the stickers I waited on and the mechanic had already given it a good bill of health. So I got the 191SC out this week for a quick late afternoon cruise. After dragging my cover down the street about a 100 yards (it was off but one strap snagged the trailer), getting to the ramp and telling my friend things are great but I'm going to run back for the key (luckily I live on an island and I'm < 5 min away) and then trying to find the fuel bulb to prime (think my mechanic moved it when I asked him to put the gas/water separator in it...that's my story at least) things went very well. Ran like a top, hydraulic steering takes some getting used to (much different than my bass boat!) and finding out how much trim is necessary. Seems to cruise very well @ 30MPH and tops out about 45MPH which is more than enough. A possible problem with the tach as it bounced to max and stayed there. Seems okay but my eyes got wide for a moment. I hope to catch some rockfish here soon.
See you on the Chesapeake!

Awesome! I looked for a used Triumph before I bought a new 195CC this spring...couldn't find any! I powered it with a Honda 90 4s and it planes nicely and runs well at 35mph when the bay is flat. Good luck on the bay. I'll be fishing out of Pt. Lookout mostly this summer and will be watching for other plastic boats. |

I took it out in 2-3 ft seas...wasn't that bad when I started and the bay waves will beat the crud out of you. The wind picked up to 15-20mph +/- and was an interesting albeit very wet ride. Crossed the bay and did about 15 min of fishing and headed back before it got too dark. The hydraulic steering in rough water is da' bomb. Nice easy adjustments for on top of the waves. A couple observations, in rough water sitting I can't see the next set of waves and was half leaning half sitting (standing too dangerous), my friend was not happy since there were no "oh sheet handles" on the passenger side though the rear seat had them which seemed odd to me.
I drained the boat coming off the ramp and had a lot of water (5 min full blast out of the drain) so I need to check to see if my bilge pump is working correctly (may have gooped up). I think I got the last remnants of pine needles and etc out of the bilge with this big draining and wet vac'd by the drain anything left. May have been stuff dislodged from towards the bow. It did work before the initial boat run in the driveway. Then again, we were soaked to the bone. I had it trimmed with the nose up for a bit of a calmer ride and the engine bogged down three times...didn't conk out but had to pull back on the throttle and then move it back. I had a blast by the way The boat's ride was commendable and I never felt not safe.
