195DC Gunwale Pad Question...

Just a question about my cushions/knee pads along my gunwale. If I am correct you can just lift up on the pads and they will release fron the hooks along the gunwale, correct? So if I remove them to store them inside after each trip is this going to be bad for the fit or wear on the mountings? Should I just leave them on the boat and clean them as needed. I will be coving the boat but I didnt know if the heat and any exposure would be detrimental. So I need to know what is the best to do. Take em out or leave em alone. Thanks!

Thfireman,
I live in Wilmington,NC with the heat/humidty that you share. I've had my 1700CC for almost four summers. I keep a cover on it and the cushions and the inside of the boat looks as good as the day I brought it home. Yours should stay the same. When you are deciding on a cover make sure it is a breathable material. The humidity in NC needs to escape. I went with Sunbrella material for my second cover and it's the bomb. It's keeps the rain out but it's also breathable which keeps the guages from fogging and the little black spots from appearing.

Thats good to know. I was worried, I had a pontoon and the seats mildewed all the time but we had a cheapo cover so that might have been why. Thanks again, Roger

I don't think the pads are removeable. There is a procuct called 303 that is like a sunscreen for vinyls, plastics etc. I've used it on kayak hatch covers and my PFD. It's an excellent procuct and will keep your vinyl new for years.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound like a commercial.

LOL, Thats OK, It is great information. OK maybe they are not supposed to come off but dont tell my wife cause I took em off already just to check it out. They have flat hooks that they hang on and it is fairly easy to replace. But I just worry they are not supposed to come off and will lose their shape or ability to hold tight. So I will leave them alone. Thanks, Roger

I will definatly pick some up. I am hoping that Boaters World will have some. Is it slippery after application? Thanks!

Yeah, it is slippery.
When we first started using it at the kayak shop some of the hatch covers were 303d on both sides and they would pop right off the boats. Not a good thing.

You might experiment with it on a small area (or just one seat) first.
