195 DC Live well outlet problem
Hi, I have just purchased a new 195 DC in West Australia. I did a sea trial the other day and generally very happy with the boat however left it at the dealers to get a few small items corrected.
One thing that has us a bit stumped is the live tank return. The tank filled up no problem , but then overflowed. Obviously there is a problem with the outlet / overflow. I ran out of daylight at the dealers so I have left it with him ( 1 hr away ) Any ideas what the problem might be with the overflow ? Where does this outlet actually report to ? look forward to any info..thanks |

thanks Roger
I will head over to the dealers tomorrow , yeah I was goin to have a good look at all drain outlets by the hose method you suggest. I will also give it a go to partially close the ball valve, but this appears a little strange to have to do and really a ball valve is not suited to running gagged. Anyway thanks very much for your feedback, I will definately be trying both things you suggested. |

Baitwell Solution.
I have posted about this problem. My dealer could not fix as this was explained to be a design of the pump...if it is not on, the water flows back out through the output. I created this solution for about $7.00 at my hardware store. It works and keeps the water at an acceptable level when I turn the pump off...however, you can't really turn it off unless the bait fish are hearty.

Good mod NJWardy. I purchased an adjustable live well timer switch for mine so that it refreshes the mix every 3-5 minutes. Your mod makes perfect sense and with the adjustable live well timer would be a great solution.

thanks guys.
The dealer filled the well with a hose today and the outlet worked fine. It definately kept up with the hose pressure anyway, so i will try it again once on the water and may have to throttle back the ball valve as Roger suggested. The outlet of the tank is already near the top of the well, on a type of Gooseneck , so i shouldnt have a problem holding level ( I hope ). Anyway I finally bought her home from the dealers today woo hoooo , looking foward to the weekend. thanks for the info fella's Harry |

Remember that the tank has a "Highspeed pick-up" on the bottom of the boat. So even if you don't have the pump running it will still be sending water into the tank. You should still close the ball valve part way, or all the way if you don't want any water going to the tank.
Roger

All,
I'm trying to understand this thread as it relates to my own situation. I was out last weekend and the livewell overflowed. When I pulled the boat in at the dealer's boat ramp I asked them to look it over. They told me that it was not intended to recirculate and that I was to fill it part way and then turn off the pump - this by doesn't make sense. When I looked in the livewell there was the drain plug and also another "port" which I assume was the inlet that fills the tank (the black port that can be seen in NJWardy's post earlier). I don't understand why the pvc addition on NJWardy's post if this is where the water comes from to fill the tank. Is there an outlet that prevents overflow? I saw some other posts that talk about a stand pipe which seems logical that it would replace the drain plug. Thanks in advance. |

Hi Tfink,
My dealer rang me today with some info that he just found out about the live wells. Unfortunately I am not at home at present so I cant check the info on my boat. I Assume you have done the hose thing - filled the well and then established an overflow from the drain, that proves the outlet is clear. Anyway heres what the dealer told me to do :- "Reach inside the live well to the plastic grill type section at the back . Pull it back from the right hand edge- it should open and reveal a tube, on top of this tube is a small plastic valve. This is probably all be feel as it may be very hard to see . Once on the water play with this valve ( gag ) until the over flow keeps up with the inlet. Do not gag the sea cock ( main supply ball vale ) under the back deck hatch " , this is the one which I was operating . hope this helps, I will be interested if it does as I will be trying it on my boat soon. Aussie,
Let me know how that works, I saw on one of your earlier post that you have some warmer weather and will be boating for a little while longer. I've winterized mine and have it stored for the winter. I think I see what your talking about though. The picture that NJWardy posted is the view behind that black grate http://www.triumphowners.net/photos/...82/ppuser/2811. When you asked if I had done the "hose thing", I'm not sure I understand what that means. When the live was full I inadverntly forgot to empty the water, so I did when the boat was on the trailer. I did establish which port it drains from and that it port was clear of debris. I looked in my manual to see what wisdom was in there. Unfortunately, the 195 DC isn't even in the manual; however, the manual did speak to a livewell "stand pipe" which my boat does not have. |
