bottom scum

My 195 has been in the water most of the summer and fall. We are ready to take it out for the winter and are trying to find out the best way to clean the bottom. Any thoughts??

Jay,

The first step is to pressure wash the hull and then use a Mr Clean Magic Eraser. This thing works great on most smooth surfaces of the boat. I don't like using it on the floor or the storage/battery covers because it breaks apart to easily.

When I winterized my 195 DC I pressure washed the inside and outside of the boat, used the Magic Eraser on the outside of the hull and quite a bit of the interior. for the storage doors I used Soft Scrub. When I was done the boat looked better than when I picked it up.

Best of all it didn't take me all that long to clean the whole thing up.

JR,
Fill up your garden spray bottle with 50% bleach and 50% water, pump it up spray the whole hull and transom really good. Wait a little while and pressure wash everything. Then put your sun glasses on.

I have a 191 F/S and have been cleaning boats for quite a few years. The best thing for cleaning any type of scum or stain off of the Ropolene is to purchase some Star-Brite Hull Cleaner pour half of it into a seperate bottle, in the original bottle fill the rest with a 70-30% mix of household bleach and water, give it a good shake, spray on and scrub off (I prefer using brush). Let me know if you try and how it works!

Rinse well after using the bleach. My dealer prepped the boat by cleaning with bleach and then stood on the Bimini top cover. Needless to say, there were shoe prints on the cover where the bleach burned the color off.

D'oh...

As said above the Mr Clean Pads will get the tough stuff and hull cleaner and bleach gets the rest.
