Installing a kicker motor to a 195dc

Since the transom is foam filled how do I mount a 9.9 4 stroke to the transom for trolling?

I checked with the factory for you on this and here is the response:
Quote:
"The transom of a 195 is filled with high density foam which is similar in density to plywood. An auxiliary motor bracket can be through bolted with a backing plate on the inside of the transom. This area can be accessed through the vertical access plate on the port side of the rotomolded splashwell unit. If more room is needed the starboard plate that the access plate is mounted to can be removed. The maximum transom rating should not be exceeded with the combination of the main(primary)engine and the auxiliary engine."
Note: Anytime a hole is drilled in the hull it should be properly sealed with Rule Elastomeric or a gasket.

Mounting a kicker motor

PK195dc,
I mounted a kicker motor on my 170 bass by using a solid piece of mohagany wood. My concern was that if the motor was too far back from the transom, it would be hard (and perhaps dangerous) to start, adjust the throtle, etc. Therefore I mounted it as far forward as possible. I also had to buy a kicker motor that came with a long shaft.

Look at the attached picture for more details.

Troll,
That kicker motor may be the problem that you are having getting up on plane without trim tabs. Thats is a lot of weight for a 17' hull. It may surpass the weight limit for the 170 bass transom and create a safety hazard or even void your warranty.

Kicker Motor

The 4 hp kicker motor was installed about two years after I bought the 170 Bass new. Thanks for the suggestions about the weight problem, but I had the same problem getting up on plane before it as installed.

I tilt the kicker up as far as it goes when I am not using it for power.
