Replacing a livewell pump on a 2005 191FS?

Wondering if anyone has had any experience replacing the livewell pump? It has a visable crack at the top. It is an older style Rule pump that seems to be a one piece unit that is screwed into the a valve base for the livewell control switch (auto, empty, recirc lever). The pump and valve assembly are mounted to the boat with a metal bracket; the bracket mounthing screws are behind the pump and are vitrually inaccessable. I tried to unscrew the pump from the valve assembly, but it would not break free. There is a large amount of sealant applied to the fitting as it enters the valve body. Does the pump spin out of the valve assembly? Does the bracket have to be removed?

Thanks

I just looked at an 2008 191FS and that pump does screw out of the brass shut off value. I'am mot sure if an 05 is the same but I will ask Carl Merritt at Meritt Marine tommorrow and get back. I have removed them before with a small pipe wrench.

I asked Carl at Merritt Marine and he said that it just screws out of the value assembly. Hope this helps.

Thanks Flatfishmoe for the help

flatfishmoe,

Thanks for the help. I did finally manage to get it removed. It was pushed/pinched onto the metal bracket with the backing nut. The pump was screwed into the plastic flow-rite valve and sealed with Rule sealant. My 2005 191FS does not have a brass seacock to shut-off flow. It simply exits the transom with a thru-hull. And now for the challenge of reaching down in the bilge to put it back together!

I have the exact same model and replaced mine last year (got a pebble stuck in there somehow). It's not too bad of a job, but yes get ready to do some stretching to get everthing in and out. I found that if you unscrew some of the clips that hold the hoses and control valve cable, you can almost pull the whole assembly out which makes it much easier to work on. Good luck and PM me if you run into any problems.
