Cool Receiving my 195 CC

Hi Everyone,

My names Pete, and I bought my Triumph back in February from XTreme Marine in Brookfield, CT. I've been a member here since then and love this forum, VERY HELPFUL, great job to the guys who run it, and man these Triumphs are impressive! I did a lot of shopping around and researching, and the Triumph was right for me. Well, I finally received my leftover 2007 195CC Friday (yesterday) on a great day (weather-wise). When I got to XTreme, the mechanic told me he had to replace the baitwell pump because it was leaking when he tested it the day before, ok no problem. So after months of patiently waiting, me and my new boat were ready to go! So I went with my son and an XTreme guy for the "official" shakedown. We took it to a nearby lake, and after about 10 minutes, noticed that the auto bilge kept kicking on, but no water was coming out of the back. So we decided to bring it back to have it checked out. Got it back to the dealer, and the problem was a bunch of plastic shavings stuck in the metal bilge grate (designed to do what its supposed to do). Quick fix. So my son and I went out for our own little shakedown, and the boat was great! With the 150 ETec on the back, the thing is amazing! On our way back, we noticed that the baitwell was pumping in water automatically without the switch on thou. So I turned the valve in the baitwell to OFF and problem solved. However, the bilge kept going on quite a bit, but I figured it was just some residual water, etc no problem. So we took the boat out of the water, and brought it home to launch it on the Housatonic River (brackish water) where I dock the boat. So my son drives the boat to the dock and tells me how the bilge keeps turning on. Upon leaving the boat, the bilge turned on again, which began to worry me, but I figured since it was now late in the day, I'll just check back later. About 11pm my son went down to the boat to find the bilge STILL ON and pumping out lots of water! So, he popped open the back access port (where the recessed "tape measure" is on the floor), and he looked in and saw water rushing in through the two back molded holes in the bottom/rear of the bilge area (what look to be the holes that drain out the innerhull into the bilge). Checked all the scuppers, and did not find anything wrong. Now it was about 1130pm and we made the decision to pull the boat. 45 minutes later and with the boat finally out of the water, we brought it home to deal with it in the morning (today). Today after we couldnt figure out the problem, we brought it to the dealer again, which they were stunned too. A sinking Triumph?!?! Well, after the mechanic got off the phone with a rep, he discovered that there has been problems with gaskets that connect the front fish boxes and the lines that channel water out of the back of the boat, so the gaskets were leaking, causing the water to enter the hull. This all makes sense because when the hull filled, it drained into the bilge, which pumped out the water. HOPEFULLY THIS IS ALL THAT THE PROBLEM IS. So we left the boat with the dealer today to fix it. If my son had not checked on the boat, it would have probably been swamped this morning due to the dual batteries dying. You would not believe how much was the pump was pumping out, SCARRY.

Hopefully some of the member here, especially 195 owners have read this (without falling asleep!! sorry) because I would like to know if this is a common thing and if anyone else has experienced it. I searched the forum for this problem and found nothing about it. I was pretty excited about the boat, and still cannot wait to get fishing, but I hope nothing else happens!!

ROBO714,
I have a 2008 195CC. I have not had a problem with water entering the hull . My bilge pump has not come on at all while in the water. I'm sure it is a simple fix and your son should be commended for being alert to something out of the ordinary. I hope you two share many hours together on the water. Welcome aboard.

Thumbs up

Robo 714,

Congratulations on the new toy...I have an 08 195CC and have not experienced any similar bilge pump issues. After washing or steady rain, the bilge pump will come on at some point. I found a fair amount of water comes in around the fish boxes and floor storage hatch covers. There is no type of gasket on the fish boxes (the floor storage does have a rubber gasket).

I used some rubber "spline" (for screen doors) around the fish boxes. It's thin enough that it does not misalign the hatch cover but does serve to hold a good part of the water out from around the hatches. Once I was sure this was working, I used a small amount of elastometric sealant to hold the spline in place...for now that issue under control.

I'm sure they have found the culprit in your situation and it should be smooth boating from this point forward. The boat rides great and is very "dry" for the captain and mates...Enjoy-John

I have an '06 195cc with no leaks in the bilge. Best boat I have ever owned.

Thanks guys! I sure hope its an easy fix but from what the mechanic said, hes going to have to find a way to get underneath the fish boxes and follow the drain hoses to find those "bad" gaskets. Otherwise, the boat seemed awesome. It is everything my son and I had expected and hoped for, from the ample seating (front and back) to the soft ride, to that 150ETec engine. I cannot wait to post some good news soon!

Also, is it normal for the live fish well to be pumping in water, even with the switch off? Its not pumping in water at the same rate as when it does with the switch on, and the water drains out of the drain as quickily as it gets pumped in.

The 195cc bait tank has a "Highspeed pick-up" on the bottom of the boat. So even if you don't have the pump running it will still be sending water into the tank if the ball valve in the tank is open at all. You should close the ball valve inside the tank part way to slow the flow, or all the way if you don't want any water going to the tank. I couldn't find the photo of the modification that several of us have made to our tanks to help prevent the back draining of the tank thru the high speed pick up fitting on the bottom of the boat ( when th the boat is at rest in the water) when you are trying to keep bait alive. I'll try to take a pic of mine soon and post it. All you do is get a piece of 1/2" PVC pipe two 90 degree elbows and a female garden hose fitting to screw onto the ball valve in the tank. Use the fittings to bring the water in above the overflow drain.

Here is a pic of my quick $5 modification to prevent the draining of the baitwell when the pump is not running. Works Great!
