Prop Problems.....191 F/S
This post is a follow up on a previous one I had concerning prop problems I had on my 191 F/S. The problems consisted of; taking too long to plane out and also problems with the prop "catching" air at about 4500 RPM. Well I thought that the props pitch could be my problem so I had it repitched to no avail. Well I have some good news. I brought the boat back to the dealership it was purchased from for it's first 20 hour maintenance on the Honda engine. The mechanic ran the boat and explained that he experienced the same problems. He contacted my father and explained to him that the prop we had on the boat was not the right size and that there was no way he would have let the boat leave ther with that prop on it. He then informed him that we would have to purchase a new prop and it would cost around $450.00. He then came to the conclusion that the guy that repitched our prop must have given us the wrong prop back, which I knew was not the case. Three weeks later I returned to pick the boat up and he then informed me that the total was $600.00+ ($450.00 for the prop and $100.00+ for the service). A liitle shocked and upset I asked him to pull the work order so I could see the part number for the prop they installed. I then asked for the Solas prop book so I could match the numbers up, and low and behold what do you know it matched the specs for the prop he pulled off the boat (13 1/4 dia. 3 blade and 17' pitch). Upon further reading I found out that, that prop was rated for a 90-115 hp. Honda, and the boat has a 150 hp. Honda. I then pulled the Honda book, in which I found out that a 150 hp. is rated for a 14 1/4-15 1/4 dia. 3 blade and 19' pitch prop. In the end he realized that he had made a mistake, he apoligized for the trouble we had been put through, and eventually put the correct prop on. Finally we can get the satisfaction and performance out of the boat we always dreamed of. I also wanted to thank everyone on the site for the great tips you guys give, I don't know of any other brand of boat that offers anything that can compare. Good luck this fishing season from the bayous of Louisiana!
