downriggers

anyone out there have a downrigger on the boat. on a recent trip to islamorada on a charterboat we had great success on the mutton snappers trolling live bait with a downrigger. im not quite sure where we should mount one on the 210. on the port side, the swim platform would interfere. is there enough room behind the cleat starboard or could it even be mounted on the transom right next to the engine? also what brand do you guys like. thanks

dicky

Downriggers

I use downriggers all the time. I do not have them permanently mounted. I have gunwale rod holder mounts and use my downriggers in the rear rod holders. I have them extend port and starboard respectively instead of toward the stern. The swim platform does not interfere with the downrigger. When not in use, I store the downriggers in the forward storage compartment port side.

However, if you want to mount the base permanently, I think they would work well on the rear corners of the gunwale.

Dickyboy, I use 4 Cannon Uni-Troll HP's (Manuals) and installed a tracking system (see my gallery) on my boat, so I can apply or remove them at will.

I will try to get some photo's of the downrigger setup somtime this week if you want to take a gander.

I use electric Scotty's, mounted just behind rear rod holder. Electric was surprising easy. I fish salmon and wouldn't go without the electrics.

downriggers

hey guys,

thanks for the input. when the weather warms up im pretty sure that im going to get at least 1 downrigger. i think that it will be much more fun than trolling with the wire like we do out here on eastern long island for the stripers. thanks again.
