Dick - Can you help with this? Fish box drains

I read this on another thread. I was wondering if you guys at Merritt have taken this class? Is this something you are doing? if so, what are the details, approximate cost, etc. I have a 2005 210 CC.

My triumph dealer in San Diego has just modified my boat's floor compartment drains. The technican just completed a class back at the factory to add drains from the front boxes to the rear boxes, and larger drains in the rears. They also added the new style pull-out inserts in all 4 compartments. This is a factory fix. I have not been out in the ocean yet to try it out, but it drains ok in the driveway. I will update this post later.

Yes, we have taken the factory classes required to be a Master Dealer.
The modification, is just that, it's not a warranty fix. The drains are welded shut and a tube is run from the front boxes to rear boxes. The rear boxes are run to the bilge. We have not modified any boats this way, and in this area draining out thru the bottom of the hull is the better way, since fish "stuff" doesn't get into the bilge. It's my guess that this modification was done at no cost due to some extenuating circumstances. I think that this mod. would take a qualified tech. approx 6-8 hours to do.

The fish box liners are rotomolded trays that are designed to fit into each fish box. They do not drain and have a rope handle at each end for lifting. List price is $270. for a set of 4.

Dick - Thanks. So, when performing the out of the bottom drain, do the front fish boxes get the same fix or are they connected to the rear fish boxes and then drain out through the bottom of the rear fish box. Also, do the current drain holes get filled in with roplene? and one more question, what is the approximate time/cost of the drain fix you guys peform (out of the bottom)?

All 4 fish boxes get a drain installed. We put Rule in the small drains to the bilge. The cost of the drain plug's with the base is $7.95 ea. + hardware. It takes approx 1hr. I think someone has pictures posted someplace on this mod.

if you look a couple posts down below ,you will see a picture of the brass style drains i and some of the other owners am going to. they seal out water from outside the boat better IMO than the plastic type . however the plastic ones will work but i dont think they will last as long w/o having to reseal them.

I would avoid having anything fishy draining into the bilge as well.

until the factory comes up with all four boxes being tied together with 1" tubing and it tieing into a maceator pump that discharges directly overboard, the thru floor drains are the only "logic" al way to go

Clogger I dont know but since I put in those through the floor darins I have been having a water intrusion problem I believe is related to them.. I love having those drains and need to do some other testing before i decide to have them welded shut or not.. I have talked to another 210 owner who did have problems that started with the drains and ended when he welded them shut.

We had the dealer install the thru hull bottom type drains. They really do make life a lot easier as they communicate directly thru the bottom of the boat instead of having fish parts in the bilge. We installed these drains in all four fish boxes and the rear port storage compartment.

Stepped In What!!

Hey Reno!!!
Thanks For The Phone Call And Glad To Hear You Got Home Safely.
I Just Come From Outside And Tried To See The Seperation Of Hulls Per Call And I Just Couldnt See It. I Got So Much Rule Between The Drilled Area From The Bottom Of Boat To Inside The Fish Box That I Just Dont Think Water Can Get Sandwiched Between Them If It Is Not Solid.
Since I've Got The Inner Hull Drain ,i Really Dont Care Cause The Water Will Sooner Or Later Get To The Inner Hull Drain. And,if It Really Should Be An Issue, I'll Just Tear All The Rule Out And Get That Pvc Welder Still In The Box And Practice My Welding Skills By Putting A Pvc Bead Around The Center Of The Thru Hull Hole And Reinstall The Drain Back On The Boxes I Have The Drains Installed In.

I'd Still Rather Have Water In The Inner Hull To Drain Out The Drain Anyday Than Have A Bunch Of Blood And Guts Draining Into And Stinking Up The Bilge And Possibly Stopping Up My Bilge Pump As The Current Models Are Set Up.

Hey Vic
In The Future You May Want To Consider Putting The Brass Drains On Esp In The Rear "fish" Boxes And The Port Transom Box. The Sea Dog Brand Dont Seem To Have Enough Surface Area For The Rule To Seal Around And In My Case I Could See The Outside Water Fill The Box. The Brass One Have Stopped The Outside Water Completely And I Only Get Deck Water In The Boxes Now.
