210 CC Prop Selection

I would like to start a survey on prop selection. Since we all have the same boat with different outboards, and prop selection seems to be an important factor, can we hear form our fellow boaters about outboard type/hp, prop selection brand/material/pitch, top speed and overall comments.
I have a Yamaha 200 OX66 with a susuki stainless steel 3 blade prop and 20 pitch. My main complaint is that the prop cavitates in tight turns and rough seas. I am looking at the 4 blade off shore prop.

Merc 150

On a 2003 210CC hull, I have a Merc 150 (Saltwater series, carbureted). RPM range is supposed to be 5000-5500 according to my mechanic, but 5100-5600 according to the owner's manual.

I was running about the same with both the aluminum 14.5 x 17 prop that came with it and the 14.25 x 17 Michigan Wheel Ballistic prop I was running:
top speed around 38-42 mph (about 40 most of the time)
4800-5100 rpm (about 5000 most of the time)

I just got a new prop (the Ballistic was stolen out of my backyard - now I'm using my "The Club" type of lock religiously again) - the prop is a Michigan Wheel Rapture 14.25 x 15. I only took it out once so far (yesterday):
top speed 40 mph (w/ 2 200lb persons and half a tank of gas)
hit 5400 rpm
but sometimes the tach was showing about 5100 and still hitting 40 (think my tach isn't reliably accurate - though maybe it's because the tach never saw 5400 in 4 years until now)

Acceleration seems better than before. Top speed is about the same - hopefully at least my full load (4-5 person) top speed will be a little better than before. I'm probaby keeping this 15 pitch prop - mainly because I think my top speed rpm's are better for the motor now than before (where it barely hit the low end). Still wondering if there's a lot of water in my hull, but none comes out of the transducer mount (but I'm wondering if foam is blocking the water)...

If anyone else out there has a Merc 150 on a 210, please post your experience (year of boat, model and size of prop, top speed rpm, top speed). Thx.

Barry,

Get use to the cavitation. All the 210CCs do it in tight turns. I run a 140 4S Suzuki with a 3 blade factory aluminum prop in 17P. I started with a 19P and could not hit top RPMs. Top speed is at 40, all trimmed out on flat water, measured with GPS. For overall use the 17P is much better than the 19P for me. I will be trying a 4blade 12.5 next. Probably will start with the 19P.

I have a 200 Yamaha HPDI, it had a 15 x 15 stainless prop when I bought it used, wasn't the right prop at all, rpms were too high, so I have switched to 14x 19 aluminum 3 blade, also just bought a 14 x 19 stainless 3 blade toward end of summer, top speed with both new props 48 mph on the gps, rpms around 5200, which is perfect, also haven't experienced cavitation at all, but then again I don't really horse it around tight turns at top speeds, mostly use boat for fishing.

K9,

I run the 210 with a F-150. I have tried many prop combo's with the last being a 13.75 x 18- 4 blade. It seems to be the best yet but I generally like to run a full fuel load before I make final determinations..

The one I ran was a Yamaha supposedly made for V max engines. Lots of Rake.

Fully loaded boat fuel, baitwell full ect. 5700 rpm @ 44 mph full trim.

No good fuel numbers yet.

What brand 4 blade are you running? What type of fuel burn?

Check out this site. A good one for figuring all types of prop problems especially the prop slip caculator.

Thanks
Recycle

I dont know the make of the prop. The marina set it up because he did not like the profromance of the prop that came with the motor. I can only get about 5250 rpms. and ave speed of about 43mph 45 with a light load. I have no idea on fuel econ.

MY '01 210cc CAME WITH A 21PITCH 3BLADE S.S. ON THE 140 JOHNSON 4-S. I GOT IT AT A BARGAIN PRICE FROM DEALER , BUT I COULDN'T GET ON PLANE AND WOULD ONLY REACH 5200 RPM. JUST TRIED A PROPULSE SET AT 18 PITCH WHICH PUT THE RPMS OVER 6000 AND I NOW HAVE IT AT 19 AND TOP OUT AT 5900 AND I JUMP ON PLANE PRONTO. I HAVENT HAD IT OUT IN THE NASTY STUFF YET , BUT I FEEL THIS IS WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE TO . WILL ADVISE FURTHER AFTER MY NEXT TRIP OUT O.I. NC
ROBERT
P.S. IT DID SEEM TO HOLD IN THE TURNS BETTER THAN THE STAINLESS 21PITCH.
