Draining while planeing
On the 210, if you pull the thru hull bilge drain while the boat is on plane, will the water be sucked out or will it be forced in? I'm thinking ahead in case the bilge pump goes out will I be able to "run" bilge dry.

I would be carful trying that draining while on plane.. I tried it with the through the floor drain holes I have in my fish boxes and it did not work.. I think it would have if there had been like a clam shell covering over the hole on the keel. I think the same may occure with the main drain in the bilge as it goes out the bottom instead of out the rear. It was fun to do that with my old row boat growing up. beat the heck out of bailing it with a bucket

K9,
I was referring only to the brass bilge drain, not the fishbox drains. I've drained the bilge on plane and it creates a vacuum effect and sucks it right out. I don't have the fishbox drains. LSUTiger, Expectations are high, but what else is new in Gator Country? The question, again this year, is can Chris Leak run Urban Meyer's offense and he and the receivers get in sync and can we put on a pass rush. We reportedly had a good recruiting class and signed a big name kid out of Jacksonville at QB that may put some pressure on Leak to step it up. What's the word on them bayou bengals? |

LSUTiger,
I would not plan on the bilge draining due to negative pressure with the type of drain plug in the 210. It may, but due to it being in a high pressure area, it will likely squirt water like a geyser rather than suck it out. That is due to the placement of the drain hole on the bottom of the hull, rather than the rear vertical plane of the transom, like most small boats. If you put a "clam shell" like mentioned by K9RENO over the hole, it would drain as the water running past the shell would create the negative pressure needed to pull water from the bilge. I put up a thread on the same type of install for the forward fish boxes. There are photos to illustrate my madness. They may help. Codfish |

In my 210 I have both the factory brass bilge drain thru the bottom of the hull just across the center line of the boat from the bilge pump YES it will drain on plane and YES it will flood if your not on plane. and I also have the fish box drains I installed and NO they will not drain unless they are above the waterline (on the trailer) I’ve tried them both, pulling the bilge plug is how I keep track of how fast water is seeping into my bilge (mostly from my bait tank system) as my bilge pump needs to much water before coming on and pulling the plug sucks the water out continuously. I only tried the fish box once water spout would be an accurate description.

To fishin DCs
If we can settle on our QB things should be good on the bayou this year. Russel will be our starter but most people around here think Matt Flynn should get the call mainly because of the way he handled Miami in the Peach Bowl. He may not have the same physical tools, but he's got it upstairs. I'm looking forward to the Gator /Tiger battle this year! Geaux Tigers I know this is a boating/fishing site but what the heck! |
