Question Bait well question

Hi guys,

so far I have only used my bait well as storage. As I am thinking of using it for what it is supposed to be I took a closer look. Something caught my eye. What is that black stuff at the bottom of the well (see pic)? Looks like something is supposed to be screwed on it. Am I missing a part?

Thanks for your input.

Nothing is missing. That black threaded fixture is where the water flows into the baitwell. Rember to open your seacock before turning on the baitwell pump.

Hi Patrick. That water outlet is threaded in case you want to add a filter to keep bait from going back through the opening. I ordered a screen unit that simply screws onto the outlet. I'll try to find a photo and post a link.

Don't know about the rest of you guys, but my '04 came with a shut off valve at that inlet, with threaded end for hose or other attachment. Keeps water from entering if you are using the washdown but not the livewell. I put a plastic hose end on it to prevent accidental water if stuff stored inside bumps the valve open. Yes that happened to me and one of my automatic inflating life vests did it's thing.

Wow, I would say like codfish, mine also came with a plastic valve to help regulate the flow of water into the tank, and a way to cut off the flow completely.

The valve is just a plastic garden hose shut off valve you can buy at any hardware store or you can attach anything you like that you can get with hose threads. I used a hose thread to PVC connector to build a inlet that circulates the water in my tank among other bait tank modifications, there are photos in the 210 mods section if your interested

I would be interested in seiing that pic. I was thinking of using the bait tank for 5" to 7" sand eels to liveline. They could easily go through that pipe.

On mine I have a flat rubber tube that alows me to leave the valve open and keeps the water from draining back out through the intake. the pressure of the water in the tank keeps the rubber tube closed and the pressure of the pump when I turn it on opens the tube to let new water in.

You know, based on the info from this thread, sound as if you can attach a hose to it, with a nozzle.....instant wash down.....of course you would have to wait untill your done fishing, and gotten rid of your bait.
