The rear seal is leaking. This can be due to too much grease in the hub. Do you have bearing buddies? Pull off the rubber hub cap and look to see if the spring therein is compressed. If not, then you're likely losing too much grease to risk trailering. I would pull the hubs and look inside at the bearings and races for wear. If worn, then it is time for new bearings and races.
On my EZ Loader, you can purchase the hubs for around $50 with the races/bearings already pre-packed from their web page. The cheaper way would be to punch out the old ones and replace with new, including the rear seals. There is way too much to learn about bearings and hubs than can be said here - check out this site for great info.... http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/bo_mai...277898,00.html or here... http://www.iboats.com/bbboard/bbBoar...ewforum;fid=22 or here... http://www.rockettrailers.com/GeneralMaintenance.htm |

I believe they use too light weight of oil to consider (even if topped up ) to drag it that far. You may though have a EZ Loader dealer closer to you who can preform the needed repairs. I would start my search for a EZ Loader dealer / repair shop on the EZ Loader web site here... http://www.ezloader.com/default.asp

Cincinnati, the new trailers don't use bearing buddies and compression springs. They use a sealed oil bath system with a visible face to see that sufficient oil is available.
Sorry, you're old school! (Me too, I almost unscrewed one of the covers, looking for the bearing buddies until told by my dealer that I had a newer system!) |

I called EZ loader. Great people ! They are shipping me out new parts, and they will pay a local shop to do the repairs .
Now if I can just figure out where all of the water is coming from that filled my fish hold ? Thanks for all of the replies |

if the ball checks are not working properly water will migrate from the transom onto the deck and into the fish boxes.
consider yerself blessed to own a current model --we logic owners have to plug our transoms to keep water from entering the deck. our boats are rear heavy due to 85 gal fuel tank and heavy 4 strokes esp. if we have a full livewell running---but i wouldnt take a new 21 ft fiberglass boat if you tried to give it to me!!!!

No Fences,
Hard to figure where the water is coming from but I would doubt it is a serious leak in the boat. The fish box hatch covers do not seal up tight so any sloshing water on the deck will get some into them. Is your wash down hose leaking? Just a thought since it is the port box that filled. Good luck. Codfish |

Didn't have the wash down hose connected, and the cap was on the connection. Maybe it was splashing from the live well? Odd thing is , I have over 65 hours on the boat , and I have never had the fish hold fill up with water before ? I have noticed the bilge pumps frequently on all of the trips. Maybe the water is coming over the back the transom and loading up the bilge? I 'll have to pay closer attention on my next trip !
Thanks for the replies |
