Downriggers

Hi I am going to put downriggers on my 2002 triumph 210 CC. I was wondering if i could just mount them on the stern straight out and not spend money on expensive swivel bases or not? Wouldn't the downrigger line get caught in the prop and ruin the engine?

Shrimper, If you have never used downriggers you would end up hating them if you mount them straight out the rear with no swivel base. Trying to attach your fishing line to them would be next to impossible. You will want the swivel base no matter where on the gunwale you end up mounting them.

Some like them on the rear corner, some like them amidships. That is a preference thing only. I have used them for years and would never go w/o the swivel base. Not only makes it easier to attach your line, it lets you get the boom out of the way when neccessary.

Spend some time experimenting with mount locations before you drill holes. I have mine at midship so I can see my rod while driving the boat. No down line fouling problems ever. I use Canon Uni-trols, with swivel base.
