Marine Battery Problem

I am new the web page and learn something new each time on. I have '00 210 with a 130 Honda that just bought used and I am having an ongoing battery problem. I have (2) 1000cca Exide marine deep cycles. They are connected to the boat though a battery switches for 1, 2, or both. Battery 1 has all the electronics and bilge hot all the time thru an additional circuit breaker. The problem is that when the boat sits for a few days even after charging battery 1 will not start the boat. I have to start on #2 and then switch back to 1 so electronics battery will stay charged while running. I am pretty sure that I do not have an auto cycle bilge. My plan is to run the electronics to the hot post on the switch and only bulge hot to a battery. My question is do I need a different battery for cranking or can I stay with the 2 deep cycles, these batteries are new this year and I transplanted to this boat from my old boat.

Hi gsdiener. Glad you found the site and find it helpful. I moved your post to its own thread so you can more visibility to your question. Is there any chance that you might have a stereo that is draining power? I discovered that my 2006 215 Chaos factory installed Radio was pulling power even when it was turned off. Merritt Marine installed a toggle switch to kill the battery drain and all is well now. This may not be an issue with your 2000 but thought I'd mention it.

battery drain

I too have a 01 210cc,and have expieranced battery drain during the past year..I first found that the battery I was using for electronics just would not hold a charge,so I replaced that battery..I eventually replaced the second battery since I purchased the boat used the owner could not remember when he purchased the batterys.( I have marked them both with a magic marker with the date) most marine mechanics will say the battery switch should be off when not in use, the bildge pump runs hot always, just make sure that the float is not sticking

I checked the pump and it does not run unless the float switch is open slightly or bleeding current, I will put a meter on the battery to check. I do not have a radio yet but I will rember about the toggle.

Thanks Gregg

Same problem here, And the auto bilge, was the culprit. Since it has a sensor....it is draining the battery, Even though I the battery swicth in the off position, it still drains. I moved the hot wire directly to the battery switches, thus when in off postion, it is also off now.

I'm going to put the hot lead for the acc to the other battery and use it to rule out a bad battery vs drain on system....I will let you know

Thanks for the help

Gregg

As a follow up to this problem I put a meter on the draining battery and found no drain with nothing on. put back on the charger for 36 hours and it still was taking 5 amps. Concluded it was bad. I was able to return it and upgraded to blue top marine Optima duel purpose battery. Here looking forward to always having juice. Thanks again for the great input

How do the batteries "sit" in the 210? Are they secure and flat or kinda tilted? I had to build a "cradle" for my 190 so the batteries would sit level and secure. They have lasted much longer too, I was replacing batteries every year with bad cells.
