Question How do you rate the ride of 215CC?

I am about to buy a 215 CC for fishing in Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. The boat seems to fit for my need. One thing I don’t know about this boat is how it handles the wave. I live in northern Virginia and the nearest dealers are located by the small rivers. I am planning to drive to North Carolina for water test. But before I do that I want to know if the trip to North Carolina is necessary.

How do you rate the rides at various wave heights when the speed of the boat is 20mph? The wave length of the Chesapeake Bay is shorter than that of Florida (choppy). This makes more uncomfortable.

2’ wave
3’ wave
4’ wave
5’ wave

I cruise at 7MPH when the wave is above 3’ on my current boat. I want to cruise at 20mph through 3’+ wave comfortably and not getting wet.

Thanks in advance.

Joe

Joe,

I live in California so I imagine conditions are different but I know the two biggest factors in the ride are the wind and the period of the waves.

I have gone out in 3+ foot swell and done better than 20mph when it's a long period and there is little wind. Haven't gotten wet either. Same size waves shorter period and add 18knot winds - there wasn't a dry spot on the boat!

I am please with the ride of my 215CC overall.

Bill

BigDogBill,
It looked you could cruise when wind is blowing 20knots. That is very good to know. If I can cruise at 20MPH when wind is 13knots, I am buying 215CC. I don't mind getting wet too much.
Thanks,
Joe

Joe, we have a 2005 210CC on the Gulf Coast of Florida. We very seldom see waves as you describe and really prefer to stay on land when the winds get over 10 MPH.

We were in 2 ft waves a few weeks ago, and with the trim tabs pushing the bow down, the ride was not bad at all. My guest was from New Jersey and stated he was very impressed with the ride and comfort the plastic provided. Many others, used to glass boats, have made the same statement. Our 210 rides better and is dryer than other boats of the same size.

I have an 02 210 and i run the delaware bay and i know what you mean about the chop. Now i can run 25mph in fairly rough water with out getting wet as long as the wind is blowing in the right direction. What i can tell you is the people sitting up front do take a beating when they are sitting not as much as other boats but it is hard on them. Now i don't have trim tabs and that may make a difference. I don't like running to fast it beats the boat up but you should be surprized at how well these boats ride.

Joe, There is no substitute for doing a sea trial yourself and putting her thru the paces. But I've used my first 210 and my current 215 on the Pamlico Sound out of Oriental. When the wind picks up out there it can really beat you up because the waves intervals are so short. But both my boats handled it really well. 20+ thru 3' seas have been fine for me. Now Robert (GGC Illogic-Al) can tell you with much more experience though as he manuevers those waters on a regular basis. Hopefully Robert will chime in here along with others. BTW we had the 215 offshore out of Beaufort a couple months back in 5' seas with an occasional 7'. We were trolling and she handled beautifully.

ride of a 210

Joe, I own a 01 210 logic and I fish the Chesapeake Bay and a few of its tidal waters..The 210 is impressive, it handles the seas very well and will not beat you to death and most important she is a dry ridding boat, mine has trim tabs which makes a lot of differance to the ride height..The boat has never disapointed me .The only limits to the boat is the handler . I have never pushed the boat to its limits. If possible go for a sea trial, take the boat through its paces. I sold a 27ft searay and down sized to a 210 ,your on a excellant site to get all the information about the boat. The people here shot straight.

I'm an older guy and fish in the great lakes. Had what I thought was a softer ride boat before the Triumph because it too was a 21' w, but had a motor mount that stood out 20" behind the boat, redistributing the weight to make a softer ride. Then came the Triumph. I can fish all day without my back hurting, even coming back in on the rough small wave chop of Lake St. Clair (very shallow and choppy). It's not necessarily the height of the waves that makes for a rough or smooth ride, but the frequency of the waves and the different directions that you are getting hit from. I am very happy with the ride that this "flexible" boat offers and would not go any other way... But, take a test drive for yourself and I think you will be happy with the results.

Joe,

I fish both Chesapeake and DE Bays with a 21 foot Logic with a wife that had trouble with 6 in waves in our other 18 foot boat(not trumph type). We've been in 2 footers doing 25 with her standing next to me barly holding on. I have to give credit to the boat and trim tabs an unbeatable combo. As said above ride in one to find out for your self. See to folks at Hooked on the bay in Northeast MD, great local conection.
