hi codfish
im very interested in putting a kicker on a 210 transom. how do you like the 7.5 does it do everything you need it to do ? im thinking downriggers and for a get home motor if something happens to the main engine. shrek |

Hey Shrek,
I get just over 5 mph with the 7.5 hp. It has a very flat two blade prop. It is great for trolling with downriggers but would be marginal for a get home motor if the wind or tide was against you. I use it because I had it before the 210. If I was getting a new motor, it would be a 9.9 hi-thrust so I could definitely get home in a good wind. Plenty of thrust for steerage from the 7.5 also. I would also recommend a motor with two cylinders instead of just one. Less shaking going on. codfish |

Kicker linkage
Hey Codfish,
Where did you get the steering linkage for your kicker? Can you steer the kicker with the main motor tilted all the way or half way up? I'm in the thinking stages for mounting my 15hp, which weighs 74lbs, on my Bay. When, the snow melts and things start to warm up a little, I'll start to take mesurements and such... Paul |

Steering
Paul,
I have not yet linked the two motors. I prefer, when fishing with the small motor, to stand near my downrigger rod and therefore use an extended throttle/steer arm attachment on the motor arm. You can just see it (the black extension) if you look at my photos in the modifications files. I know, from checking out the motor link systems, that you can steer the small motor when the big one is in the up position. I can't remember the names or web addresses though. Hope this helps. Mine is a simple, no frills install. I like to keep everything as simple as possible so clutter and potential break down is at a minimum. I have stayed away from such things as a throttle and or steering link at the console for just that reason. If I had a 15 hp electric start then I would probably go for the additional convenience controls. codfish |
