Chaos electronic's installation

Hello Gent's, first I'would like to say thank's to all and what a great site. As the owner of an "06" 215 Chaos I can say "WOW what a great boat", confirmed by fellow boat owners and friends I'm happy to be in such great company. In addition I can relate with the past articles regarding issues with my own boat and can say nothing is ever perfect, Let's see the 235'...

I finally have some time off and I've been searching for a past article of a 215 Chaos with Faruno equipment installed on a piece of starboard for an easy removal and cannot find it today. I'm looking to do some modifications and would like to refer back to what has already been done.

Can anyone help?

thanks,
Mark

Mark, that was NC Angler that had his electronics done in that manner. If my memory is correct, the folks at Merritt Marine did the work. Randy is the founder of this web site that has helped a lot of us with our boats. I am sure he will be happy to help you.

Thumbs up

Hey Mark. Here is the picture of my original layout that Chad Merritt at Merritt Marine did for me:

After having it out a couple times I actually pulled the Furuno FCV600L fish finder on the the left and purchased another Furuno color unit. (The FCV600L is available if anyone is interested BTW. It has only been used about a dozen times and I'd entertain an offer on it). After installing the new fish finder I wanted to move the CD/Radio to the back of the console and permanently mount it. The reason for doing that is that the radio was the heaviest and deepest device in my setup so removing it from the starboard insert made the task of inserting and pulling the electronics much easier. I purchased another piece of starboard from MM and used my Rotozip and a drill to craft the new layout seen below. I just took a quick picture of it. Hope it helps.

Thanks guys,

NCangler,

I was able to find your first set up yesterday but I originally saw your later arrangement and that is what I am looking to do. I have a Garmin 498 which happens to be back to garmin for issues with the sounder. I'm looking to go with an additional screen set-up. Possibly looking at the GPS Map 2206 or another sounder. I considered a Furuno sounder because 3 of 4 fishing buddies have the same make, though older they seem to work great. Of course the one is hull mounted. I still haven't given up on Garmin and I do like having the capability of linking them together in addition to learning one vice two pieces of equipment. Is that a 585 you have now?

I may know someone interested in the 600.

Thanks again for the help.

Mark

The new color unit I installed last year is a Furuno FCV-620. I really like it. I haven't had much time to be on the boat though. I've only used the radar once and havent' tried the auto pilot yet! Too much work and I'm becoming a very dull boy. Thanks for the interest in the FCV600L. It is in excellent shape and is just sitting here in my office in the original box and everything. It will be a good deal for someone. I've hardly used it at all. BTW I really like the way the cutout worked for my current setup. I can reach thru to control the CD/Radio and can also put my wallet, cell phone, etc. behind the electronics so I have the benefit of the removable electronics console mount and still have some storage back there.

Hey NC Angler,
How does that setup lock into position? I need to mount my eletronics this week to get out on Sat/Sun. Can you get a photo of the back side and/or the area that secures it.

Thanks!!!!!

Merritt Marine used a router to cut a "channel" on each side of the console for the electronics panel to slide down into. I've attached photos of the back of the Starboard panel that I cut out to mount the gear on. I purchased a mounting bracket for the VHF but I believe the other electronics included the mounting hardware. I hope this helps.

Thanks NC Angler

I am going to rig my electronics this weekend. Posted for some info and got no results... Can you post a couple of picture of where your GPS and antenna cables come into the console. with the folding console I don't want to drill any unneccessary holes in the console. Also how did you route the depth fron transom to console.

Thanks!!!

How can you say you got no results? I took pictures of the back of my electronics right after your post and uploaded those for you. As mentioned elsewhere, my boat is covered up right now and we've had freezing temps the past week so pulling it out to take photos is not real convenient at the moment. I also have some tough deadlines with work. I'll try to take some more photos when the weather warms and there is time to do so.

The radar, GPS, Sirrus Satellite cables are fed thru the T-Top aluminum into the inside of the console. I cut an access hole in the right corner at the rear of my console storage (with the fold up see-thru access door) to feed all the cables for my electronics insert thru. I kept my CD/Radio mounted permanently in the back of the console. The cables for electronics are bundled and when the electronics are not installed I just feed some of the bundle back down the access. The transducer feed is routed off the port side of the transom as seen below, and is fed into the motor cable bundle and under the floor, thru the cableway and up under the console. I hope this helps.
