210 With a Yamaha 115

I have a 2002 (no t-top) with a Yamaha 115, with WOT I only get to about 28mph (per GPS, tested in my car and it is dead accurate) with myself and 1/2 tank of gas....and I only weigh 150lbs. I have been reading several threads on top speed, and how are some getting to 39mph with the same set up? Do props make that much of a difference? I am almost clueless to the different types, but does anyone know what would be the best setup for mileage and speed for a 210 w/115 Yamaha? Thanks for any input.....I guess currently I have the stock prop that came with it.

you only have a 115 pushing your 210? In my opinion you are WAY under powered. I have not heard any one using under a 140. I think 150 is minimum. That is the common hp and is what is pushing most of the 210's around 40 mph.

Well, being her in California, West Coast, I seemed to have a limited choice given my budget at this time....not many boats here, good ones that is and usually demand a premium compared to the East Coast/Flordia etc... But never the less, the seas don't come up too quickly around here, so I don't feel too vulnerable. So are you saying that with a 115, top speed of 28mph or so would be average/normal?

Horsepower

I agree with K9 in that the 210 is very much underpowered with a 115 horse motor. I have a 115 2 stroke on my 186 and the non GPS top speed is 40 mph which I'm sure would be a little under 38 on a GPS. 115 is pretty much the standard on the 18 and half footers and the low end option on the 215. With a 400-500 greater dry weight you're going to be a lot slower with that engine.

well lets see, I have 2002 210, I was sold with a 115 merc. I did not have a choice of motors, then again..my local dealer did not give me an option.... HOW ever, I wish I had 150...but my 115 will get 39 mile per hour by odometer, and by GPS 35 -37 it is All about the trim. I have the stock prop of I think a 14 pitch. Any who, who needs speed?? In the ocean 24 is plenty fast.

I have a 210 (same hull) with a Yamaha 115 and get about the same WOT as you in my opinion we are slightly underpowered. My boat is used only for fishing salt water mostly around the Channel Islands and almost always with 1 or 2 anglers in the 4 years I’ve owned it the conditions have only allowed me to open it up a few times anyway. I sometimes feel weak running up the backside of a steep swell while running downhill back from the Islands. If I could have afforded it I would have bought a 150 originally however considering the time I spent on the water boating instead of saving more money I have no regrets. Enjoy your Triumph know your limitations these are fishing machines and I believe the quietness of the plastic hull gives us an advantage with the local WSB

I own an 06 215 with a yamaha 115 and the test run we ran 39mph. I average about 35mph in about 2/3 ft seas. top speed was 39. never had a clam enough day to see if I could top it. If you adjust the tilt of the engine, you get a little more.
