Erratic Fuel Gauge

We're still not through our engine's 10 hour break-in period, and the fuel gauge is jumping around like it's on caffeine. Even with the engine off in still water, it wiggles randomly showing us that we have somewhere between a quarter tank and a half tank of gas.

The dealer we bought it from is 2 hours away, is there any way I can troubleshoot this? If it's the gauge, I'd like to replace it myself. I'm just hoping it's not the sending unit.

Thanks

What you might check is the tightness of the electrical connections up under your console.

I found that some on my 150 were looser than I like when I was up under there hooking up a fish finder right after I got it.

While you are up under there also take a can of marine lubricant spray and give the stuff a lite spritz just to provide some protection from dampness and corrosion.

Thanks, Jan. I'll definitely check that out. It would be nice if it's simply a loose wire.

Check the wires at the sending unit under the deck. Easy enough to unscrew the deck behind the live well and check those connections also
