Livewell pump leaks

My livewell pump leaks where the pump head snaps on to the pump body. Is there a gasket or o-ring that I need to replace or should I just replace the pump for about $35. It leaks bad enough that the bilge pump cycles on and off every ten minutes or so when the seacock is open.

jergofish,
I cant remember if there is a gasket / o-ring on it or not, but it is eazy to check. Just unsnap the side catches on the pump housing and pull the top of the pump off of the pump base. Mine was leaking and I found that my pump housing had a crack in it. The base housing and the pump head will have barbed nipples on them. The top one is for the pump discharge going to the baitwell and the bottom one it the water supply to the washdown pump suction. When you pull the top of the pump to check for a gasket be sure to check the pump housing for cracks. Mine was cracked around the pump discharge nipple going to the baitwell. GOOD LUCK AND CATCH EM UP. BOB

Rudderhinge, thanks, I looked up the pump in Cabelas, BassPro, etc. At the price of a new one it seems silly to spend too much time screwing around with the old one. One thing, I looked at the top of the pump head and couldn't figure out the capacity. Two new ones are available, an 800 and a 500. I'd like to match the old one. I guess I'll pull it first and haul it with me to West Marine and just match them up.

I have the same problem. I opened up the access panel to view my pumps because of the leak and discovered that my bilge pump was cracked right at the discharge tube. I assume that in both cases, the manufacturer tightened the clamp too hard and cracked the pumps!

TRIUMPH: please do a better job at QC.

I will be contacting the dealer to see if they plan to cover the cost of the pumps as I am 2 hours away and just went to the local supplier for the pumps. The boat is brand new (June 17th, 2007 took delivery).

Other than this, I love the boat.

I had read in other threads that the reason my baitwell does not hold water when the pump is off is because the water drains back down through the pump. I decided that I should try to create a small plumbing solution: raise the output.

I plan to install this $4 fix this weekend and I will post pics. Simple 3/4" CPVC. Maybe I will sell these on ebay...

All the hoses connecting to my pumps leaked. My bilge would run evey so often for no reason. If the valve was open, water was coming out everywhere. I've since gone through the entire boat and made a bunch of 1/8 turns on screws. It reminds me of the Sea Fox I left behind (ouch, I know!!). QC at the factory needs some work.

Baitwell Rig

Here is a pic of the simple rig I added to my baitwell to prevent the water from draining out when the pump is off:

I hope this helps.
