(Shake Down) La Harbor to Catalina 210CC

A quick 21 mile trip to Catalina was a good effort for the Yamaha F150 strapped to the 210 CC. The return trip took us on a 92 mile loop north to Point Dume and returned to Cabrillo Marina around 7:30pm last Sunday. The seas were 4 Foot rollers. The boat powered thru everything at 20 mph all the way. I must say aside from every terminal on the power buss either coming loose or delivered loose, the boat did exceptional. It does a good job of holding a steady course. Top speed around 40mph w/ full tank of gas and 2 adults onboard. The boat also did a great job of keeping big rollers out of the cockpit area, we still ended up soaked from head to toe from the windwaves and spray. It was nice to be back on land and after we were done shivering we realized it was a day to remember.

DNATZIC;

Just wandering what other CCs you looked at prior to getting the Triumph. What were the major factors that made you go with the Triumph. I am looking very serious at the 210 but still doing allot of research into it. What did you mean things came loose? I have read some things with screws coming loose on these boats but thought they were all fixed up.

What dealership did you purchase from any issues there? Well I have a million other questions in mind just wandering if you could expand on your own research results and how you feel about the boats overall performance at this point.

I like the fishing space on the CC but concerned over the wet ride issue. Maybe I would look at some type of vinyl covering to protect the capt and 1 other adult if there is something out there like that. How much does the hull flex? A major issue with me. I would mostly be using for island exploring but would like to go offshore once in awhile chasing some albys.

Looks as though you've been on thehulltruth.com. The individuals that post there for the most part know nothing about the Triumph line of boats. I've had my 210 for about 7 months now and I think it's far better than some of the other boats I've looked at. If you do your maintenance regularly (that includes checking all nuts, bolts, and screws) you won't have any more problems with it than any other boat. You will get some real, factual information (good and bad) on this forum from "Triumph owners."

I can tell up front that you will get wetter in any other CC than the 210. I have had mine for two yrs now and havent gotten wet on a run yet. my first trip out was windy rainy day off of NC i was running 18mph in 6 ft seas the only water i took into my boat fell from the shy. as for hull flex what is the major issue you have with that? that is one of hte things that make the 210 one of the softest riding boats on the water. I might worry if a fiberglass boat flexed like a 210 becasue the fiberglass would eventually break, but the ropelene will not crack or break under the flexing. heck i beat mine with a hammer to get the ice off of it. do that to a glass boat.

Tunaboyyy,

Your questions begged for a reply. If you chase tuna off shore then you know that no CC boat will keep you completely dry in bad conditions. Just a fact of life in a CC. You can buy the factory kit or have some custom console curtains made that will enclose two people and keep them dry in the worst of it. That was my solution to the spray problem. As far as the flex, you willl not see it but you will feel the softness of entry when you fly off a lip. You will still be jarred when you hit but it will be less violent than a glass boat. I have owned glass and aluminum used in the Pacific for many species over many seasons. The Triumph has been the most enjoyable for the ease of maintenance, fuel consumption (4 stroke helps the most), overall ride for size of boat and trailerability. Yes there are still some nits I have about fit and finish, but for the money I don't know where you could get a better deal. If you test other boats as a comparison, be sure to compare like size. Longer boats will ride better in the rough than a 21'. They cost a lot more also. Good luck on the decision. codfish

We have had our 210 for about a year and a half now. We looked at mostly all the other brands just to compare the space and the use of storage. The triumph 210cc has more space then some 24 footers. One of the best features of the Ropelene is the flex. Thats what these boats are sapose to do. The ride is much better then any boat I have been on. Every one that we take on the boat loves the ride. I don't bother to slow when crossing another boats wake, actualy I sometimes speed up Anonther thing is when you have a Triumph, you get people coming up to you and asking questions about the boat. You will love the 210cc.

Thanks for all your responses. Anyone out there with feedback on any southern California dealerships let me know how things are going. Is it safe to assume the majority of the 210 owners are running 4 stroke yammies? I have been doing allot of reading about the Evinrude E-Tech 2 stroke saltwater series that is very favorable over the 4 stroke yamma. Just wandering what you are all running and if anyone out there has the Evinrude.

Anyone out there running a larger upgraded bait tank under the bench seat?

Thanks again for all the respones great site!

I’ve had my 210 just over a year my only other salt water boat was alum. See the 210 gallery “my old boat “ so the ease of maintenance is similar. The ride and general seaworthiness is awesome, I’ve gone out on days when other 21s were loading back up at 6:30 am! see fishing gallery “BIG DAY etc.” I’m seriously wedged in there so is the photographer Dave just look at the angle of the horizon!!! The boat handled wonderfully. I’ve never taken anything except windblown spray into the boat, Id recommend some kind of Isinglass enclosure if you want to stay dry in all conditions, as for me rain gear will suffice when the wind really whips up. O.K. Johnson marine in Ontario is where I bought mine, Ron is a bit of a used car salesman however my overall experience has been satisfactory. They stand behind the boat and are pleasant to deal with. I was looking at used boats when I saw them beating on a 210 with a fish bat at the boat show in 04, Ron had a new 03 at the shop with a Yamaha 115 he sold me for what I was willing to drop on a used rig. All in all Id do the deal over again the same way this is a very fishy boat
Good luck
CK
