How does your 210/215 handle in following seas?

I have had by 2006 215 for a little over 2 months now and have fished her several times offshore on Florida's east coast. I like the ride when going against the seas, she seems to ride smooth and quite soft. The past two times I have been out, as we are returning back to the inlet in following seas she seems to be real bow heavy and bow steers a little. Not the most comfortable feeling... So what I wanted to ask everyone is, is this normal for this boat? Does anyone else have this situation?
The only gear I had up front was ice in the cooler seat. I tried to trim the motor up but would cavitate fairly quickly.
The dealer mentioned dropping the motor down one hole on the transom to allow for more upward trim without cavatation but Triumph said not to. Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!

I have noted a similar issue with my 2004 210. The only thing I have found that works is to add throttle (I actually will work the throttle trough the waves if it is bad) and my trim tabs to full up. I have also noted that this only occurs with a true following sea, so tacking about 15 degrees does help.

Thanks for the comments. I guess I need to improve my boating skills, I'll try to avoid direct following seas and see how she does.
If I had the option I think a 175 hp on the back would have balanced her out better.

Can't wait to find out how my "07" 215cc handles the rough seas. Gotta a May 25th delivery date and I'll be taking it down to the mouth of Kennebec river (Maine) past Fort Popham to open ocean. It is usually quite rough there. I'll post a report.
Rhinofish do you have trimtabs? If so have you experimented with them?
Good Luck,

Overtaking following seas can be brutal. A friend of mine almost broached his 20' Grady White coming into Oregon Inlet with following seas coming in at a slight angle. He was able to correct in time, but the boat went full tilt for one hair raising moment.

Have you tried holding at plowing speed instead of trimming the engine up? I've had good luck doing that, but I've only had my boat for a couple months so the jury's still out until I hit more snotty conditions.

oregon inlet is just plane bad!!!
i almost breached a 23' sea ox on the southside jetty once when the inlet was too rough to go straight out. definately need to take the waves on angle.
BTW, the cobia will be up there in a couple more weeks---chocolate piggies!!!

Though new does it have a inner hull drain?

Could be that you are carrying on some extra water weight in the inner hull... Here again I would think not since most of that water "seems" to get in there from the boat staying out in the rain and we have just not had any here in Florida (why we have so many fires) in a long time... Not to say that the water cannot get into the inner hull by other acess points (inculding washing it down afterwards) but easy enough to both detect and correct if does have some

More informatin on that fix though, should be found by using the site search tool on the keywords "inner hull drain" or some combo of such.

Did you go out in the rough stuff, or did you get caught coming back in after it picked up a bit? ...Chocolate piggies - LOL!

everybody was turning around trying to go out, but we kept seeing small boats taking on the breakers at the rock jetty and getting out. no following seas in this incident, however the same disastrous results can result in a forward 8 footer in 4 ft water!!!!! the piggies are thick at the hook at cape lookout so it won't be long before they get up north

I noticed after installing trim tabs on my 2001 210 it handled a bit differently in following seas. or if you've ever passed a boat and crossed its wake I have had similar strange results! I wonder if the moving water has a bigger effect with the trim tabs acting as a "pull down" effect or even side to side effect for lack of a better description. since these boats are quite light relative to other boats. I have Bennett M120 tabs.
