Question Suzuki DF140HP question

Hi guys,

I had not logged in months. Nice to be back on this website. I have a quick one for you. The below link brings you to a Suzuki boat/engine test. I was wondering if they use statute miles or nautical miles. When they say 4.1MPG at 4000 RPM do they mean 4.1 statute mile or nautical miles?

Pretty sure it is statute miles, as the numbers come out better that way. Also note they test with just 1/2 a fuel load so add another 35gallons x7 pounds per gallon = 245 pounds in extra weight and the numbers will change! If you want some real life numbers I would ask the group, as I can only state them for a 150 honda, which I might add had a lot better numbers

Welcome Back Pax!!

I Ran My 140 White Zuk Clone On The 4th And Got Within 2-3 Mph Of The Posted Numbers. My Propulse Was Set At 19" Pitch And I Maxed Wot At 5900 And 37mph---fast Enough For Me And At 4000 I Was About 23mph And The Boat Pushed Through All The Chop At That Rpm With No Effort

I tracked my gas mileage from last year and it very close to what Suzuki shows. I did a fair amount of trolling giving me the fairly high mileage.

My suzuki flow scan is getting installed as we speak right now, so I should some real good numbers soon. The numbers will be with a full boat though (more realistic) fuel, food, gear, etc. I should have the results up in a about 2 weeks.

Thanks for the responses. Just to double check. We all agree that the numbers provided by Suzuki are statute miles. Right?

Hey Buckshot are you getting on that tuna bite we have in the bay? Lost one on Saturday. Hopefully will have a second chance on Sunday.

I would agree they are using statute miles.

I'm on va-ca next week and will be out trying to hook up with my first tuna.
From what I'm hearing it sounds like a good year for them.

I just wanted to update this thread with some real numbers. Yesterday I ran my boat over to San Clemente Isald from Dana Point and put some real numbers to the test. The boat fully fueled, I had three big guys, 200 lbs ice., ice chest full, and loaded down with gear. So I am going to estimate that with all stuff I had onboard including my safety gear it would be the equivalent of 8 people.

Condition were great the whole way, nothing major to affect or slow us down with wind or waves. I ran at pretty much 5000 rpm the entire way over and back. The total miles for day was 130 miles. When I filled up after getting home, I took on 51 gallons. This gave me 2.54 mpg average for the day.

At that RPM and in a real fishing situation this is probably where you are going to be. I cruised around 22-23 knots on average.
