I am wondering when Triumph changed the allowable transom weight from 550 to 500? My 2004 specs clearly state a total transom hanging weight of 550, of which I have used to around 515 with my 140 Suzuki and a 7.5 Honda kicker (predecessor to the 8hp).

Cichild, I know you want the E-tech, and I can't blame you, they are nice motors. You could consider the Suzuki 175, which is the same block and weight as the Suz150. Don't know if that saves you the 8 pounds you need or not, but is a thought. I would also quiz your dealer when and why they trimmed 50 lbs from the allowable weight.

Thanks codfish but it looks like the suzi weighs in at about 475 lbs. With weight being a concern I don't believe I could get the performance I need from a 4 stroke. If I was to buy a 4 it would definitely be the suzi though, great engines.

I'm curious too now about the transom weight issue. Is Triumph just trying to cover themselves in case of transom failure, hence a more conservative max limit? Have they had transom failures in the past?

If someone knows I would like to know. Thanks

I am not aware of a transom failure but I am checking with Triumph after Codfish's post to confirm the 500 lb. number. Stay tuned.

my 2006 has a maximum engine weight of 550 lbs. This from the owners manual did not go out to check what plate in boat says.

hmmm, well the boat I am looking at is a 2006. Still curious as to why they backed down the transom weight though. Could it be a typo on their site?
