transom weight

Hello, I was wondering when selecting a kicker if its weight should be included in the maximum transom weight. For example, the 175 e-tec weighs 427# which would mean I could not install a kicker if I had to account for its weight. I keep getting different responses from people.

I'm looking at the 21'

Thanks for any help

Yes a kicker motor needs to be added to the maximum transom weight in order to not void the warranty. What model boat do you have (or are you looking at) and which engine? I'll try to get a max weight for you unless you already have it.

Thanks Angler,

I'm interested in the 21' with a 175 e-tec and a Tohatsu 8 hp kicker which according to my calculations would put about 508.5 lbs on the back just over the limit.

I've been told by the factory that the maximum weight for the 215 on the transom is 500 lbs. so you're right, you're just over the limit. It is a tough call whether to go with a 150 hp or a smaller kicker.

Thanks again Angler,

Only problem is, being the same block, the 150 weighs the same as the 175 and the 200.

With the amount of trolling I do I would really benefit from a kicker, do you think anything smaller would be able to keep the boat on course?

I didn't realize that. I don't have any experience with kicker motors. Maybe someone else can jump in on that one. And perhaps your Triumph dealer would have some input as well?

Lightbulb

Pending how slow you need to troll, you may want to consider some Lenco trolling tabs instead http://lencomarine.com/troll'ntabs.html and then you don't have to worry about sniffing burning 2 stroke oil

Cichlid - I would be a little suspect of a kicker smaller than 8 hp on a 210. Particularly as a "back up" motor with any current/wind. I have a 9.9 4S and beefy bracket. Paired with a Suzuki 140, I'm a little over the limit. But the boat came that way (bought used). No ill effects on the transom evident. Can't speak to potential warranty hassles. If Triumph is serious about having 215 owners with kickers they need to raise the recommended limit. I suspect having beefy guys use the swim ladder puts at lot more stress on the transom than a 90 lb kicker.

Thanks but I was hoping to hook this up to the kicker

This would solve my only complaint I have when trolling, trying to keep the boat on course.

yeah I figured I would need at least the 8 hp at minimum. I would really be unhappy though if for some reason I needed warranty work done and it was voided of 8 lbs.

As far as I could find tohatsu makes the lightest 4 stroke, am I missing some brand?
