Psycho Bilge Pump

Hi All,
I am having problem with my bilge pump. It runs all the time. When I unhook it, and then reconnect, it stays off. If I then turn it on in manual mode, it won't shut off. I guess it is sensor or float, I am suprised I am having issues as the boat is only 7 months old.

Hi Duffyt.

Sorry for your troubles. I do understand your disappointment, but you are talking about something that is mechanical and was put together by humans. You could have spent well over $100,000 for a new car and had some sort of "issue" within the first few months.

Have you talked to your dealer? They would be where I would start in trying to solve the problem. Not being good at tracking electrical problem's, if I had to fix it myself, I can think of 3 things that could be causing the problem. First, the pump itself (have you call the pump manufacturer for their thoughts?), the switch could be bad, or wiring could be faulty.

Sorry, but that is all I can think of. Good luck on finding and solving the problem.

I called the dealer today, he is going down to boat yard to service my engine this week, and he will be bringing a spare bilge along. The pump is covered under warranty. I checked out some other posts on this site, and there are a lot of threads regarding bilge issues. Thanks much and hope everyone is doing well.

duffyt,

If you searched this site you'd have probably come across a similar experience that I had with my bilge pump. I had the same reaction Haha. The dealer changed out the pump under warranty, no problem. But if others reading have a similar problem, it could be temporarily solved by doing this: Look at your battery terminals, if you see a separate wire marked "auto bilge" coming off the + terminal, unplug it. Your console bilge pump toggle switch will then act as a plain old On / Off switch. You won't have an auto bilge pump anymore, but you'll save the battery and still be able to pump bilges.
