210 hydrolic steering

I have already put out some feelers to a couple guys on the site, but I am going to open it up for thoughts from everyone.
I am trying to get ready for one last trip to Erie but I can not get my hydrolic steering to turn the motor. The hoses are not kinked, the pumps are full of fluid, and everything looks normal. The motor is almost hard over to the starboard. I can not get the steering to turn to starboard and it turns some to port but pops and doesn't move the motor. a couple times the motor will start to move then stop and the steering starts popping.

anyone got any ideas. If I can't get it working today we are done until nest spring, and my fishing partner will be in Iraq by then.

Dick, mine has stuck before after setting for a while. I had a helper turm the steering wheel as I gave the motor a tug and it took off. My boat has a SeaStar steering system on it, im not sure what you have. You said that; the pumps are full of fluid ! so you probley have somthing else. Mine did the same thing that you said yours did. Tried to move then stop and then made a popping sound. Found out later that the popping was the relife/check valve in the helm unit. One of them was stuck but it freed up when I gave it a tug.
I hope that you find out whats wrong and get to take your buddy fishing before he goes to Iraq. My son just got back from his second trip and im going to take him fishing all i can. Good luck, Bob.

Problem solved. I had apparently introduced air into the system when I installed my auto pilot last spring. I called Merritt marine and Carl was kind enough to diagnose and give me instructions over the phone on how to correct the problem.
It took me a while to actually get it done right, but I did get all the air out of the system. Once I got the routine figured out it was not that hard. But I did make quite a mess spilling and dripping hydro fluid all over.
It is just to bad I didn't get it fixed soon enough. The weather kind of turned to crap anyway.

thanks for the hlep.

Good to here that you got the problem solved. Sorry that you didn't get to go. I had forgot that you but auto pilot on your boat but I would have thought that any air that got into the system would have shown up sooner. I guess that stringer things have happened. Anyway better luck the next time and good luck to your buddy. Bob

Filling and purging is fairly simple but requires two people. You can download the instructions at the link below.
