battery help please

I have two batterys with selector switch. battery 1 is for cranking and battery 2 is deep cycle. When selector switch is in position 1 I have no power. When selector switch is in position 2 or all I have power. I removed battery 1 and recharged and had tested. Battery is good. Any ideas? Thanks Rivercat

Check the switch,

I had a partial system failure (lost all the gauges) on the 190, but the engine kept running that was very intermittion when I would go over over some waves? Come to find out from the guys at the dealership that the switch had a defective pole in the #2 position and replace the Perko switch assy.

I also found (in my old 210) the wires going to the back of the switch had gotten loose one time and caused a problem just like yours. I had pulled and tested both main ship service batteries and found them good? I then pulled the switch down and found loose wires going to back of the switch.
Hope this helps?

I'm with him ^^^

Check all your grounds. After a long day of pounding 3-footers, I had similar symptoms. The cause was a loose ground connection in my CC due to the heavy seas that day.

While this may not be your answer, I have been going thru my wiring on my 210cc, and was shocked to find out that the bildge pump, lights, wash down pump, horn, and live well pump are all hardwired to battery one via a 30 amp relay bi-passing the battery switch. This means that if the batteries are turned off there is still power to bildge pump, lights, wash down pump, horn, and live well pump. This also means that if battery one dies , I lose bildge pump, lights, wash down pump, horn, and live well pump. I have been looking at revising the circuit to only have the bilge pump wired direct.

This brings up a great point. Does anyone have a wiring schematic or plan that you recommend for a 210 with a dual battery switch setup? This would make a great article if someone has a diagram and photos and could describe how you've wired your system and why. I've been wanting to trace mine out and possibly redo it but I need a plan! (Funny that way...)

210 Schematics

I have been looking for a factory schematic for about a year. I have gone thru most of the factory harness, and will start preparing a schematic. I have prepared most of my schematics in autocad 2000 and after completed, I can save it as a acrobat file. Randy once I have completed the schematic, can I send it to you for evaluation?

Barry, that would be excellent! Thank you for volunteering to do this. Maybe Dick at Merritt or a tech person at Triumph would take a look at it for us. I might also try contacting someone at one of the Marine battery sites. So when you have it email me the pdf. This will be great!

Barry, Didn't you have some pictures at the old site of your boat lift? I'm hoping to add a boat lift at some point and would enjoy seeing how someone else attacked the challenge.

i also had a switch problemon my 186 logic, but it was caused by how i installed it. it seems when i put the screws in with my drill/driver i tightened 1 screw too much and cracked the housing that somehow caused the switch not to work in position 2. it 'bout drove me crazy cause i would take the switch aloose from the boat and i would have power at position 2 ,but as soon as i screwed it back on the boat i would lose power at position 2.sounds simple now ,but it it almost got my last nerve before i understood what was going on. bought a new switch an gently screwed it in and never had another problem. don't know if this is what happened in your case ,but i encountered this situation .

Be careful when charging a deep cycle battery from your engine. The regulating system on outboard motors does not know when a deep cycle is fully charged and can fail. If you must use your engine to charge your deep cycle, I would not charge it for more than 30 minutes at a time. It is best to use a seperate charger.
