way to determine prop size?

I bought a 210 chaos a few months ago and notice that it seems to be a bit slow...Out of the hole real quick, but I can't get more than 34-35 mph out of it on the speedo. It is a 2004 with a 150 Evinrude 2 stroke. I looked at the prop and cannot find a stamping on it at all. I suspect that I will have to pull it off to see what size is on there but was just wondering if there is another way. Am I off in thinking that it is a bit slow for half fuel, normal safety equipment and 350 lbs of me girlfriend and dog?

Thanks in advance...

TJ

TJ,
Boat speedometers are notoriously inaccurate. Check it with your GPS if you have one. I have a 2008 195 CC with a T-Top. I can get about 43 MPH on my GPS at wide open throttle with a 150HP 4 stroke Yamaha. Hope this helps.

Sorry I forgot to mention 2 things. It has a t top as well, but more importantly the gps backs up the speedo readings. Maybe the mid 30's is the best I can do....

What RPMS are you getting at WOT? If its close to the max rated for your engine you probably have the correct pitch and diameter on your prop. You stated that your hole shot is good. If you can't reach max RPS then you might be able to reduce your pitch or diameter and get more top end speed and RPMS. Your hole shot may suffer some.

Hey TJ,

Just to give you my point of view. I think your speed is about all you are going to get out of it. I too have the 2004 210 and run a 2006 150hp honda, GPS indicates top speed of 34 knots, now this was when the motor and prop was brand new and the boat had me and light gear aboard. Since that time I have added gear, cooler, extra water, heavier anchor and rope, and a new girlfriend . Hence I top out at 31 knots with the boat trim out to the max. As for a prop I run a 17 inch, I have though of jumping to a 19 but to be honest on the coastal waters around here I rarely get the chance to run WOT do to the chop.

Cheers
Jim

KingZ,
That speed sounds about right, I have an 07 215cc with a 150 Etec. Also has a T-top. I'll do about 32-33 knots (GPS) with a normal load, i.e. two people, some gear and feul. Just a guess but the T-top is going to slow you down by about 10%. I started out with a 14.8x17 prop and it would only tach out at about 4900-5000 rpm's (29 knots). We changed to a 14.8x15 and went up to 5200 rpm's. You could go to stainless steel and get a little more. The prop size should be easy to locate, just keep looking you'll find it. I hope this helps.

Thanks for all of the replies. I did find the size, but I forgot what it was already. It has a few little dings so I was thinking of changing to stainless in the spring, but I may just buy two aluminum props. I have been far too busy since I bought the boat but I am planning on putting quite a few hours on in March so I'll keep you updated if my speed or rpms are far off of what I remember.

Thanks again,
TJ
