self draining cockpit?

hi all,

i bought a new '04 210 this summer. i really like the boat but i have a few questions about it. i keep the boat in the water at a slip in eastern long island, ny. it seems to me that most of the 210 owners on this and the previous site keep their boats on their trailers. my question is this. what were the designers thinking about when they designed the boat to drain through those two small holes with the flappers just in front of the engine? when i take the boat out and i return to port, when i hose the boat off, id say at least half of the hose water ends up in the bilge and must be pumped out by the auto pump. this is hardly self bailing.keeping the boat on a trailer probibly doesnt lead to this as the drain plug is removed. if you were out at sea, (and there are some pretty nasty rips in my area), and you took a wave over the side, you better hope that your pump is working because it seems to me that you would have a heck of alot of water inside with no way out. is this something that you guys are dealing with. also when drifting, sometimes some sea water comes over the transom and into the back of the boat. this water also ends up in the bilge and must be pumped out. do you guys plug those two holes with the flappers up while at sea or do you just let that water in and rely on the pumps? thanks for any imput. other than that, i love the boat

I have an 03 210cc. I have not had a problem with the self draining aspect. I have used hoses and powerwashers to clean my boat after bloody fishing trips and I get very little water for that into the bilge, most of it goes out those flap scuppers and into the splashwells then out the ball scuppers. as for taking a wave over the side I have experience with that also :? At the owners get together in AL in april I took a Breaker over the starboard aft quarter. I had a healthy load of water in my boat from the splashwells to the captians seats. I hit the gas and the water cleared out suprising quick. At least by what I expected. Those rubber flapper scuppers arnt the best at keeping water out but they do limit it a little. Ihavent found it to be a real problem

rear flapper scuppers

I've noticed that if you're not anchored into the waves when fishing, the boat will turn rear to the chop. When that happens, the ping pong balls stay down more than up and that lets lots of water in. Need to make sure to keep crud (leaves, acorns, etc.) from blocking the ping pong balls. Wightwash
