Trimming lids so that they will shut??

Hi Team,

New member here, basking in all of the knowledge (see Bought a boat, just so I could see the pictures :) ). I spent the day cleaning and messing around with my "new" 2002 210CC but unfortunately didn't get it in the water yet (figure that getting it registered first might be appreciated by the harbormaster.

Anyway, I have a bunch of questions that I will be asking over the coming weeks but I thought I would start with this one: Has anyone tried to trim the various fishbox and storage covers to make them fit better? Mine all close poorly, seems that the tolerances to the openings are too tight. I did a search on previous posts and saw some mention of trimming and other solutions but I didn't find anyone claiming success.

Your help is appreciated.

Ted

welcome aboard, I too have a 2002 210. As for trimming the lids, never gave it a thought. This model and year, the boxes were not all that great, and do not hold out much water. But none the less, if it tickles your fancy knock yourself out. As for me, I primarley use them for fish, misc storge that water does not effect. Look into the search engine, and you will find just about anything you need. good luck with the new boat , and new adventures.

I used a belt sander to "trim" the lids down a bit to make them fit better.

Ted,
The one thing to consider when grinding down the fish box covers is that they expand considerably in the sun. All my boxes are tight when in direct sun and hot, but when wet, or colder weather, they fit perfect. Just another consideration before the Big Grind.
Best of luck and get er wet!!!

ted, fella is so right about what cold or hot temps do to these boats not saying its a bad thing its just the way the worlds toughest boats are. they ten to expand and contrac a lot. i know that i see bulges on my boat in some places when its real cold and they go away when it warms up. myself i would use the boat a few times first to see how the lids are going to act before i sanded them. i did have to sand down one of my seat storage lids if that makes you feel any better. but you did not go wrong buying a triumph. i guess the flexabilty of these boats is what makes them ride so good.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm holding tight (pun intended) for a while before I do any surgery. The boat is just a driveway ornament for now anyway, as I am having trouble getting the trailer registered. Just a technicality, but annoying nonetheless. My wife reminds me that it is still winter so I shouldn't get all stressed about it. Me, on the other hand, I want a couple hours on the water and maybe to get a couple of my lobster traps into the water for a 'signs of spring' celebration! Soon enough, I suppose!

Manomet, we understand that you have a Triumph, not a Logic, but read the Logic Forum.

Illogical GGC, or Berto, has a Q2, with no warranty, and with work on his part, it is as good or better than any new 215CC. At least in his eyes and many others, myself included.

Like many, we can not afford that new 235CC with another $50,000 of extras. We love our 2005 210CC and just keep working to make her better. We really like the idea of being able to pass this boat on to our son in years to come. We are positive that it will serve him well.

Good luck in all your efforts. Take pride in your work and strive to make your boat better.
