Smile Things to Check on a new 210

Hi All,
Here are some things to check on the 210 from Johnson Marine in Ontario. Double check trailer lights after putting in.. mine failed (filled with water after one use). Electrical connections on the breakers/switches, battery, and battery switch. All were found to be loose. Dash lights were never connected, Trim tabs dumped fluid into my rear box and bilge. Accessory connection was installed on Batt 2 however Battery switch was on Batt 1 resulting in a dead battery because the baitwell draws from Batt 2. I relocated the assy terminal to Batt 1. With this config. you can work off Batt 1 all day and still have your backup. Your adjuster on the seats will be to tight causing them to stick. They will end up getting stuck all the forward or to the rear because the channel has been bent to limit travel. I straightened the channel and installed 1/4-20 bolts to limit travel. Grind the plug down for the front fish box so it actually inserts into the drain hole. This one is very important because you can flood out if you forget to install. make sure the cupholders in the console and the rear fishboxes drain before you go out. The rear fishbox drains are undersized and clog easily. Have fun.
Dave

Wow, that's quite a list. Sounds like they're getting a little sloppy at the factory.

my thoughts...

Most of those are dealer issues I believe. We're all going to have break in items and things to tweak to get the boat just where we want it. Those are things we need to work with our dealers on.

The fish box drains are the main complaint that many of us have had with our boats. But the amount of storage provided on the boat compensates for me, although I do hope Triumph will come up with a solution to it in a future design. And hopefully there can be a modification that can be made to make us legacy users happy too.

WElll well well, sorry to hear your troubles, When I got mine, the trailer lights also failed, 2 shorts I found. Pinched wires...:-{{{. Then within a year the fender lights rusted away, well the connections anyway. Now i replaced all 4 and for some reason, I went out in the morning, and along the way the port side fender lights have now power>>>>go figure. Still can not figure that out.
As for the side fish boxes, mine too drain slow....Just have to live with it.

guys,
trailer lights are always an issue with boat trailers. I am constantly tweaking things, sometimes one will not work then if you just move some part a bit it comes on. can't blame Triumph for these!
As for the fish box drains, many of us have installed screw plugs, in fact the plastic ones work great and only cost about $4.00 each. It does take a little work to drill out the new size hole and then seal with Rule Elastomeric sealant and screw in screws. But once completed they don't leak! Should be some photos from old site, if not let me know and I will post some.
Many options for battery set up. I am going thru a change for mine. Thinking of using 2 batteries off the switch just for starting and running motor. Then have a dedicated 3rd battery for accesories which I will charge off my Yamaha HPDI, which has a plug terminal in the motor itself that I can run a connection to the battery in the console. It will recharge when the motor runs, this way I won't drain my main batteries ever. I am trying to get the connector I need off my motor for this.

As for the batteries, I am running everything off the main, that gets directly charged from the moter, My 2nd battery is my back up, Hope never to have to use her.

Two Battery Set-up

I just went thru my 210cc wiring, and was surprised on how the boat is wired. I found that all of the accesories plus the bildge is hard wired to battery one via a 30 amp relay. I have just finished redoing the wires, and only have the bildge hard wired to battery one and all of the other electronics wired to the battery out put on the battery selector. In the past I had lost battery one and lost all of my accesory electronics.
I am working on a circuit that will drive the bilges pump which is hard wired to battery one to feed off of both batteries even when the selector switch is off with out back feeding the batteries.
Also I found that the light to the compass is only light when the iginition switch is on, so if it is dark and your engin is off, you will not be able to read the compass. Look for a post by Dave, I have sent him a wiring diagram of the 210cc.

Yes running everything off the main will charge everything if the motor is running. However if you decide to turn off motor and fish(whether it be drift fishing or casting etc...), and leave things running such as livewell pump, bilge pump, radio, GPS, lights, etc..., it can drain that battery. Hopefully not enough to not start the motor. I think this will be rare and you can switch over to battery #2, but you never know. I will feel more comfortable with my accessories on their own. Probably just being a bit anal..........

Wink Thanks Guy's !

That's some great feedback. We had a great ride in the LA Harbor last week with 14 foot seas out at Horshoe Kelpbed. This boat lands pretty nicely. Even when the boat is out of sync with the swells it recovers smoothly. Not to say we didn't get beat up pretty bad but we did have a great time. The F150 is out of this world just point and shoot. Any other motor for me would have been dockside in those conditions. As for the Assy. term it will probably end up on a group 27 Diehard all by itself with a Batt. Sw. on the Common and the poles going to the existing Batteries 1 and 2. Usually just leave in position 1.
