Suzuki or other 200 4-stroke

Does anybody have information about Triumph raising the transom weight limit to hold the new 200 4 strokes? I believe that most of them if not all are just higher than the weight limit. I sure would like a 200 4-stroke on my 210.

Why? Go with a 175 or 150, it's plenty for these boats and more efficient, with the price of fuel nowadays especially. I've got a 200 Yam HPDI on mine and if I had the 150 I wouldn't mind. Only reason I've got the 200 is because I bought it used and that's what it had!

Question Motor size

I bought a used 2002 210. It came with a 150 hp Evinrude EFI 2-stroke. Yes, I would have preferred a 4-stroke, but this engine has done a great job and I don't need any more horsepower than it provides. Fuel efficiency may be its only drawback. On a calm day, I can get where I want to go easily at 3800 rpms. Why do you feel you need so much power?

My 2002 has the 115 4 stroke merc....More than enough power...I can top at 40 mph with no head wind and a calm day.,
But heck who needs that speed???If you want speed you should buy different type of boat...These boats are lite, must remember that...I would hate to be doing 50 or more and hit a good swell.....

When buying any boat it is wise to consider installing the maximum horse power rated engine you can hang on it. Boats are not like Cars and Trucks and do not glide very far when you get off the throttle. It takes a lot of work to both get, and keep your boat on a plane and one can get into what is called the “Point of Diminishing Returns” real fast by under powering a boat and could burn even more fuel by having a smaller engine working at max grunt all the time just to move her.

Now some of this can be offset by not loading one down heavy most times and keeping the fuel tanks at 1/2 or lower which has the addeded benefit of reducing your draft if you fish in the skinny stuff like I always do.

Just something else to think about

Why so much power?

I like the Suzuki 4-strokes. They came out with the new 6 cyl. 4’s that only come in a 200 or larger. I also spend a lot of time in a light chop in the bays with a lot of distance to cover. This is usually done with a full boat. I do not use it to fish offshore but the occasional trip down the beach in the bigger stuff. Triumph dealers seam to like using Suzuki's engine and thought maybe triumph would work to raise the weight limit by the few pounds. The power is nice to have and I don't usually settle for it's “Fine”. I like to work on the “it could be better”.

We don't buy into the max HP thing, when the fuel usage charting continues to climb and the speed does not climb at the same rate, it's not doing the proper job. That's when propping becomes important. We have found that on a 210, the motor of choice is a 150. any higher is not gaining speed compaired to fuel usage. However, there is a definate downside to underpowering a boat.
We don't want to get into a contest on this topic, it's just our opinion.
Here is what we have found to be the motors of choice in testing Triumph Boats.
210-150hp
191-150hp
190-115hp [or 140 suzuki 4 stroke. about the same fuel, more speed]
170-60hp
150-40hp
