Gator, I went with a Navigator trolling motor that mounts on my cavitation plate on my outboard, and I love it! I went with the 24volt 55lb thrust, and it moves me around pretty good. I will try and get some photos of my setup this for the board this week.

Lil C - I was also considering your setup, but was concerned about the potential drag that the trolling prop would create when motoring at 30-40 mph. Have you noted any performance difference with this setup? Also, how much of a pain is it having to steer from the console while fishing? Guess that's not much different than whem I'm trolling and jigging at the same time?

Cinci,
That fact that you have to steer the boat from the helm would be the only drawback if your trolling the shoreline a channel, or want to stay on a straight course in wind & waves, your gonna want to be on the wheel. But then again you will have the same problem with the gas motor or any other electric motor. Bring a fishing buddy or two and switch off at the controls is a good solution and a fun one. No performance problems or drag. You see once you get on plane the entire unit is out of the water. I looked into other options and this seemed to be the best route to go, If you put a bow mount on a 210 your probably gonna have to chop your bow rail (if you got one) and the trolling motor is going to have to have at least a 62" shaft. Now Minn kota make a Autopilot/Copilot that would be nice,"But I cant stomach the fact of hacking at my bow rail", and personally I think it would'nt look good either. I have been really happy with the Navigator so far and everyone that has been onboard really compliments it as well. I do get a little gurgle in wavy water but thats about it, and for larger boats you cant beat it. Take Care Little Casino |

Trolling Tabs anyone?
Hi guys. I would love to see some photos of LittleCasino's setup. I was wondering too if anyone had any experience with the Lenco's Trolling Tabs
http://www.lencomarine.com/trollingmotorswi.html They are an interesting solution that I've looked at, but I haven't done any pricing yet. I have Lenco 12x12's on my 210, which is probably overkill.

ncangler,
Lenco Drive 164's are $1,550 on Boaters World  Way to pricey for me, but they are impressive. The Navigator appears to be the most likely route I'll go, but it appears the motor would have to be fully extended to operate it. That may not sound like much to worry about to you nawthun folk but fishing the gulf flats, a few inches mean alot. Water depth within 2-3 miles of shore can only be 5-6 ft. Cheaper (way cheaper) Lenco style would be ideal, but not sure if swim platform would be in the way. |

Good question on the swim platform. Yeah the Lenco's are too pricey for me too, but it appears on their website that they have a retrofit if you already have their tabs. I'll look into that and the cost of the retrofit kit. They apparently have a new digital footpedal that works the trolling tabs that looks pretty awesome. Ahh...if only I were a rich man.

Okay well it appears that the retrofit kit means the new accuators will fit in the same holes on the boat. Looks like it requires a whole new system. They sure look cool though!

Here is the web address of another such system (one can never have enough options) that I found today on the Internet that may be of interest to you guys...
http://www.stealthpropulsion.com/ More than one way to skin the cat I guess problem is, it is just as expensive as all the others I have seen and it would "appear" that one would have to remove the swim platform to make the system work... Enjoy! Dave |
