Re-Powering! :O

We got a killer deal on a left-over inventory 215 last year, and it's been a great boat. But we've come to realize that the carburated 2-stroke isn't very compatible with our boating habits. It pulls strong, and it's never quit on us, but it really doesn't run well when we tilt it way up in the shallows, especially if we have to run at idle speed for a long time with it tilted (such as in the Holiday Island canals).

Since we plan to own this boat for a long time, we decided to act now while the motor's still under the 2 year manufacturer's warranty and still worth something in trade-in.

A little pain now for a lot of satisfaction over the next few decades!

150 underpowered? What, are you trying to pull out stumps with your boat? LOL!

I would go 175 or higher. I sold my 215 with a Suzuki 140 and it was definitely under powered. I would probably still own the boat if it had a 175-200 on it. With a full load of gas and passengers, it wouldn't even get on a plane.

I have no doubt! I guess expectations are relative. I think 40mph is fast for a center console, but bass boat folks yawn at speeds below 80.

Good grief! With my 2-stroke 150, I was easily pulling skiers up with 4 people aboard. What gives with the variations in performance? Prop? Engine torque curve?

The Suzuki 140s are a little light on torque. I had 3 props and always changed them out before each trip depending on what I would be doing that day. With just me in the boat, WOT was in the low 40s. Power wasn't much of a concern cruising around on the lake but it becomes a real safety issue when your crossing the Columbia river bar loaded down with ice and tuna after a fishing trip.
