Whats under the splashwell
Whats under those covers? I am not to happy at having to pull the covers and install a porthole somewhere water was meant to be. Especially on a brand spanking new boat...wait till I tell my friends what I am doing this weekend
they are going to laugh me out of the state. My last boat was a weekly chorefest thats why I bought a NEW boat. Oh well what else have I got to do? Are the wells open to the inner hull???? Anyone tried ruling around the covers before they got water inside?

If you dont hear any water sloshing around in there and the boat is new go ahead and rule around the edge of the covers and you probably will not need to worry about doing anything else to them...That should keep the water out. No they do not open to the blige.

first off -welcome to the family!! that being said you are going to find even with a brand new boat that these boats are not perfect and there are several issues on each different model that have to be addressed. the way the 210 mold is made is such that there are 2 cavities in the splashwell area that are open and appear as built in buckets. it gives strenght to that area where the transom and boat meet and provides those visual "kiss off" points so as to ensure the plastic that ties the transom to the boat was properly melted and molded correctly. if for some reason the plates should lose their seal and allow water to enter there these cavities would hold <5 gallons each. in the earlier models and i think even today the factory filled this area with expandable foam in a plastic bag such as computers or electronic equiptment get packed in. in my boat once water got inside the cavity the foam acted as a cork and actually floated up to the top of the plate and caused the seal to fail that much quicker. when i took the screws out of the plate and waited an hour ,the plate popped away from the seal along with the foam plug. that's why threw away those foam plugs which stink terrible with mold and i put the screw in lid access covers on the plates so all i have to do is vaccuum out the water once it gets back in and trust me it will find it's way back there. it's the downside part of the flexing these boats do. it's these simple to fix small things we do to enjoy the greater benefit of the soft ride that comes from the flexing. there is a learning process to go through with these boats---screws strip e a s i l y , rule "rules", the only dry floor storage is the dry bag you put your stuff in and bring onboard. since '01 i have owned a 186 logic and currently a 210cc and i still find things to improve on each day . however, the more i do , the more i know as to what makes 'em tick ROBERT

pulled my covers off the other day, yes there was water, yes it was a bit on the smelly/nasty side, and yes there was a foam block in there. Not real sure what harm it was doing however, with the foam in there there wasn't room for much water. However I am now going to put in the Beckson covers, just ordered 4 inch clear ones for $9.99 each from Boaters World, and am going to reseal with Rule of course.

I just got my boat home to ready for its first trip of the yr. and guess what I found. The covers I removed cleaned reseated and sealed one was still sealed and appears dry. the other however seems to have gotten some water in under the sealant and the cold and expanding ice pulled 5 of hte 8 new screwheads right through the cover. the cover is now loose and has water. so I have to redo it when I get time. ..thought it had it fixed.
