Smile Harbor Freight

I think Harbor Freight has the welder..that would be a one way trip though.

I kept reading the splashwell posts and telling myself, not my boat..not my boat. Well guys, I checked my splashwells today and found about 4-5 gallons of water on each side. I followed the earlier directions (removed the screws and let the foam lift up the plates). Wet vac'd the water out and dried it out. Scraped off the old tar and cleaned them up. Used a dremel tool to cut out the area for the 6" Becksons (clear model). Ruled in the new deck plates and let them set up some. Ruled the underside of the splashwells and put them back in using a bit larger screws that came out #10/2" SS. Had enough rule to completely fill in the gaps around the edges to try and dry it in completely. Everybody should check thier 210's for this issue. My boat's an '04 model.

Just completed my splashwell modification this weekend. I used the 4" (as long as I can get a wet-vac in there, in the event that water enters) Beckson/clear inspection plates, and ruled the the inside and the outside, and then cleaned it up with a little mineral spirits. It was a very easy install and looks good as well.

Thanks again to the members of this board for pointing this out, and posting a solution to the problem. I always wondered what that funky smell was!

I finnaly got mine fixed again. I had to use pan head ss screws and fender wahsers because of the ice pullin the old screws through the cover. But just got back from a reall test on a very choppy lake erie. the fishing sucked as did the weather. got lots of water in the splashwells, but no apparent leaks.

Exact same issue with my new 03 leftover. I realized after I picked up the boat. The boat went throught at least 1 extremely cold winter and one of the covers has a couple of screws that went through the cover. Calling the dealer right now

OK so I called the dealer who acknowledged that ice was most probably the culprit. He promised to take care of it at no charge In the meantime I am carying an extra 10 gallons of water.

Well i checked mine again this year after i fixed them last year. Guess what full of water pulled plates off this time and going to put the access plates in.
I might put other covers in i can get white delrin sheets from work i can have them machined to fit also make them thicker so all water runs out scupper holes. It helps when your the foreman of a machine shop.

I replaced my splash well covers last year with the foam inserts from the factory. Took them off last week and they were full of water. So today I replaced them and did the access covers to be able to vacuum out the water. The wife gave me a Rotozip as a present a few years back and it has a round hole attachment. Worked perfect for cutting the access holes. I used two tubes of Rule on them!

I also cut a piece of starboard that I picked up from Merritt Marine and made and insert for the console to mount the electronics on. There was so much bounce in the console mount last year that my Furuno mount cracked ($50 to replace the plastic mount!). I'll try to add a picture when I get it finished but it is much sturdier now.

Hey ksr5 if you machine a nice fit that helps reach the scupper holes, you might have a product to sell the rest of us!

Randy, what size tubes of Rule did you use?

Looking at doing the same modification.

New owners - Splash well covers - What to look for

The picture says it all. The red circles show where the screws went through the cover. In my case, I believe that ice formed during winter and pushed the cover really hard. Covers will be fixed next week.
