Angry Next time I will listen to you and do it myself

I had the dealer replace the splashwell covers. Less than a month later the port side one is full of water. When I brought it in the first time to fix it, they told me they had never seen such an issue on a Triumph. Yes, sure! I told them 200 times to check this website and to use Rule. I guess I will do it myself this time.

Even after installing the access plates, I was still getting a fair amount of water into the splashwells. I had fully ruled around the edges of the splashwell plates so didn't figure it could be from that. Dawned on me that the access plates may not be fully sealed.

Couldn't find an o-ring gasket to fit the plates, so I took 4 rubber bands and am using them as a gasket on the access plate. Worked great this past weekend. Only a small amount of water made it in, but nowhere near what was there previous. Still tinkering though to achieve total dryness.

I Think Everyone Is Focusing Too Much On Trying To Have A Totally Waterproof Boat------guys It Ain't Gonna Happen
Trust Me ,if You Only Have A Little Water ,youve Won The Battle.
There Are Gonna Be Certain Areas That Due To The Flex And Ropolene Material ,you Will Need To Install Access Plates To Get The Water Out
Just My 2 Cents On The Matter
Robert

I agree with Robert. A dry boat is a contradiction in terms.

I finally bit the bullet and removed the splash well covers on my 2004 210CLE. After reading all the posts regarding leakage, I was not surprised to find that both wells were completely full (I guess my boat was built prior to the foam insert modification). In any case, it turned into a day long project.

I completely removed the black tar-like substance and the deteriorated foam gasket. After the clean up, I over-filled each of the wells with triple expanding foam and let it set up. After trimming the foam until it was even with the top of the well, I laid down a thick bead of elastomeric sealant on the bottom of the covers and let them set up. I replaced the covers and put about 50 pounds of weight on each cover and let them sit for several hours.

The last step was to replace the screws. I replaced the original screws with larger brass screws to improve the purchase. Finally, I filled the void around the edge of the cover with more elastomeric sealant and then used a damp cloth to get a nice finish on the seal.

We're taking the boat down to Lake Pepin on the Mississippi river for several days of camping starting on Wednesday so I'll be anxious to try out the new fix. Hope this is the one and only time I have to deal with this.

Cheers

Splashwell

Thanks for the info on the splashwell covers. Took mine off and they were full of water. Thought the smell was from a cigar minnow left somewhere. Cleaned and replaced cover and installed access plates, at least I can get the water out when and if it gets in. Thanks again.
