splashwell covers

I removed the splashwell covers to clean them out as I was getting a foul odor, and find them hard to keep clean even with the cover on. I found that the rubber gaskets had almost totally disintergrated and the foam inserts were full of water. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how did you cure the problem. thanks Rivercat

Splashwell

There have been several fixes posted over the last year for this problem.

The one I used was to remove the covers, vaccum out the water, clean the surfaces well and Rule the **** out of it.

Replace the covers, Rule around them very well. Then I installed the screw drain plugs in the cover so I can check for water.

If I should find some (once and I sealed more on the outside) I siphoned it out with a piece of fuel line and a fuel bulb.

By the way throw the foam inserts into the garbage. If the covers do leak the foam actually floats and puts more pressure on the covers.

Thxs

They are refering to the little gray covers in the bottom of your splashwell in front of the motor. they have had a tendency to collect water which adds a lot of weight to the back of the boat. I found that mine had filled even with the some what limited use my boat got the first yr I had it. It is why they started to put the foam blocks in there. I just took my covers off vac'd the water out cleaned them, then put lots of rule around the edge and reseated the covers using a extra screw on each side, and then filling the top edge around the cover with rule. I used clear rule. if you stand on you boat on the trailer and rock it back and forth you will hear water sloshing in the wells if you need to reseal them. that black stuff the factory uses seems worthless

splash guards

After reading this post, I went out to check my splash cover wells, and as everyone else, mine were full of water. The drain plugs used, are they the same as used for the bildge? Also will one tube of ruel do both covers, or do I need to pick up an extra tube?

i put 6" beckson round deck plates with clear screw in covers in the center of the gray plates. i find beckson the easiest to install of these style deck plates
you will need to remove the plates first and remove the foam plugs the factory put in there cause they only float when the water gets in and actually helps to make the seal around the plate fail that much quicker. if you do put the screw on covers on ,you don't need to go overboard with sealing the plates back cause you will be able to unscrew the lid and vaccuum/pump the water out as often as you want
this is the type of "drain plug" recycle was referring to. you can get 4" as well but boaters world had 6" on the shelf at the local store and i wanted to get finished with the mod. so i opted for the 6"
there are pictures of these drains in the 210 mod photo gallery i believe

i forgot to mention in my post, if you think you have water and want to remove the plates , simply remove the screws and go away for and hour and come back. by doing this , the foam plugs will break the rule seal for you if there is mucho water saving you from having to pry the lids up.

I started replacing mine late this afternoon. I installed the foam inserts last year and must have done a pretty good job with the rule cause I've only gotten one off yet. They were sealed pretty well! I'm getting rid of the foam and going with the access ports. I'll try the trick with removing the screws and letting the foam push up the second splashwell tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!

Hey Genelie were you out on the water this weekend?
Sorry I was not on the water....I will not be untill after June 1st...unless of course I get a good boat side kick who wants to fork over most of the bill. I am 3 weeks away from vacation...must save pennies.
And as for the splash blocks OH MY GOSH!!! I guess that explains why after I clean my boat,....and I sponge out the remaining water in the splash block area, I find water there again...HMmmmnnn I guess I need to pull and vacum.....Oh RULE where are you...... Hee hee more work ,,oh well Hey robert...sounds like you gone through all kinds of trial and errors with your boat huh.?
