215/CC Transom Question

Would anyone know how thick the Transom is near the motor mounting bracket?

I am planning on installing an Airmar TM258 1kw transducer which requires a noticable amount material to screw the bracket into.

Here is a link to the transducer
AIRMAR Electronic Catalog

Since thru-hull transducers are not a viable option, this is the only solution that I have been able to find that will solve most of my sonar issues. 600w transom mounted transducers do not seem to cut the mustard when you are hovering over 2000 feet of water looking for Tuna and Marlin.

Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.

wow, is this universal for most fish finders?? I like what appears to be adjustable depth, if so that is way cool.

I have been trying to use a standard transom mounted transducer. These unit typically only have the ability to output 600watts which I have been told is not enough for the SoCal ocean.

The main issue I have been running into is if the depth exceeds the max depth for the transducer the sonar ceases to function. I have been told that this is because if the sonar does not return a bottom depth/lock, nothing will appear on the screen since it has nothing to compare from a top and bottom trace.

While out chasing tuna last weekend, I thought my sonar died only to find out later that due to the average depth 1700' - 2200', my fancy GPS and sonar unit, become a fancy GPS unit without sonar.

Airmar makes all the transducers for all the major manufactures of fishfinders. If you check out their site www.airmar.com you can see all the different transducers that they make. My electronics installers are able to install any of the transducers by specifying what type of connector is required for a particular fishfinder.

Please check out the pictures at links below. It is also described in the Articles Section under "Additions & Modifications to our 2005 Triumph 210".

Transducer Installed - Triumph Boat Owners - Photo Gallery

Push Pole Bracket - Stern View - Triumph Boat Owners - Photo Gallery

Works GREAT. Would do it again.

Question A Question...

Doesn't the model of the depth sounder determine the power output? Just because a transducer can handle 1 KW doesn't mean it transmits 1 KW.

BarryB,

You are correct your fishfinder has a rated power output determined by the manufacturer, but most of the transom mounted transducers only have the ability to use 600watts. In my case, my fishfinder has the ability to output 2kw but to use a 2kw transducer I would have to sell my soul. These babies usually cost around $1500 which is really hard to justify to the wife.

OspreyVic,

I am curious, did you change the height of the transducer when you trolling as opposed to running to the fishing grounds? Also, have you had any problems with the mounts pulling out after a time? One last question, what was your max depth it would bottom out to?

I hear what you are saying, my old lorance did the same, However I have a foruno now, max depth for the unit is 2500, I know she will hit 1500 for sure. When trollin for tuna, I only run her around 400 feet, anything below that really does not matter much. I have yet to bring up fish lower than 400 feet. But the tranducer still functions well, and retrieves echos when the sonar touches something, and if it is big enough not only does she display the target, she will display the depth as well.

First, I am in Florida on the Gulf. Out 50 miles, I might get to 100 or at most 120 feet in depth, so can’t really help you there.

When running out we leave the ducer up, and then lower it when we start trolling. A simple pull on the rope is all it takes. It just helps remove the extra tail of water. The mount has NEVER pulled out. Just remember to use Rule when installing.
