210 rod storage

Anybody modified the gunnel rod storage? I'm a hackel tossin fly rodder ,my rods are 9' long . I dont like how they whip back and forth at cruising speeds, when stored verticaly Thinking of reaming out the fore gunnel rod hole and lining it w/a thin pvc pipe will I hit any thing important in side?

well if you ream them out , let us know how it goes. I have one that definetly has to much foam or something, I can only slide a bait net it in.

fly rod storage

Do you have a t-top? If so, I mounted a pvc pipe horizontally on both sides of the top under the canvas. I use pipe insulation to protect the rod and a bungee to hold the reel tight to the pipe. Works great with no whipping.

yes I've been wanting to improve those gunnel rod storage areas too! they definitely are a weak point on these boats.

I created a homemade fly rod holder for the rodholders in front of the console. Took a piece of PVC pipe that was a snug fit into holder, then cut a groove into top part of pipe for the reel portion of flyrod to slide snugly into about 5 or 6". I basically copied something I saw that was created for flyrods. I'll try to find a photo of what I am referring too. It works quite well!
only negative is that when flyrods are not in use the tips are still in the way if doing other casting.

this is why the gunnel storage would be the best if we can figure a fix for them!
